Almost a quarter of a million of them.

A report in the British medical journal The Lancet blames former President Trump for an error-filled response to the coronavirus pandemic that it says contributed to 40 percent more deaths compared to other wealthy countries.

The report from the Lancet Commission on Public Policy and Health in the Trump Era points to the more than 450,000 deaths in the U.S. from the coronavirus and says about 40 percent of them “could have been averted” if the U.S. death rate matched that from Group of Seven members Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the United Kingdom.

Personally I think they are underestimating the numbers. tRump didn't just fail to act proactively he actively hindered efforts to save lives.

Faulty study because there is one big difference between the US and all those other countries: US States have the power within their states. Trump couldn't force the states to do anything.

Of course it's not really tRump's fault, Myc, I'm just kidding around. Sorry that I upset you.

What an incredibly burning indictment against Trump, and from a respected Medical Group. All the more proof that DJT was a horrible choice for president, and an equally strong indictment against all those who for some moronic reason supported him, and, incredibly, still do.........

This is something most thinking people knew already, but here it is from a solid source, leaving trump supporters with nowhere to go but in a hole to hide .............

Nobody expected one man to wave his hand and end the pandemic, but some competence and seriousness shouldn't have been too much to ask for.

Instead, we got bizarre pledges about pandemic end dates, confused messaging about social distancing, and asinine remarks about "treatments" that were pulled directly out of Trump's ass. He and his people pushed misinformation that killed people and they did so because they thought it might improve his chances in the election. That is a level of evil that they will have to reckon with at some point, if not in this life than hopefully in the next.

No--------Trump could have been a leader. He was the opposite. No "faulty studies" with this group---you are dreaming, and it is time to break from the cult.

He was a leader. He and his administration gave lots of suggestions, which was all he could do.

For example, he couldn't force the Governor of NY to not send COVID positive people to nursing homes full of extremely at risk people.

Trump made two hospital ships available, but he couldn't force either state to actually use them.

Excuses don't cut it----excuses are the stuff of losers.

The employees cost those nursing homes, the ones influenced by DJT, etc.....
Good leadership doesn't need to "force" anything........

Well, somebody needs to make a list because accusations don't mean crap. Besides, as I often say, after the Trump Russia Collusion lies, we just can't believe anything that comes from the left.

COVIDiocy was made into a right wing political position under Tweety, as he was afraid that the pandemic would hurt his reelection chances. Later, militant masklessness became anti-vax woo. As someone who sees that bullshit for what it is, it was and continues to be difficult to watch.

Rotflmao!

Trump is never guilty, of anything!

Yeah we have heard this song before.

Specific faults noted by The Lancet in OP’s reference are 100% supported by facts most Americans already know.

“Many of the cases and deaths were avoidable,” the report states. “Instead of galvanising the US populace to fight the pandemic, President Trump publicly dismissed its threat (despite privately acknowledging it), discouraged action as infection spread, and eschewed international cooperation.”
- From the beginning, Trump deliberately lied to Americans regarding the ease of transmission and lethality of the virus.

"It's not just old people," Trump told Woodward, acknowledging the gravity of the disease, The Washington Post reported.

“His refusal to develop a national strategy worsened shortages of personal protective equipment and diagnostic tests,” it adds.

“President Trump politicised mask-wearing and school reopenings and convened indoor events attended by thousands, where masks were discouraged and physical distancing was impossible.”

- Trump constantly harassed elected officials across the country that were following CDC and their own states medical officials advice.

Trump’s number one concern throughout 2020 wasn’t saving American lives, it was getting re-elected.

He could have been a real leader. He wasnt. He even admitted to lying early on to minimize it.

And you cant believe that way more people WANTED to vote that trash out of office? What a joke.

He was a leader.
No.

He was a liar and a denier.
He and his administration gave lots of suggestions, which was all he could do.
Take 2 hydroxychloroquine tablets, and call me in the morning (if you’re still alive).
For example, he couldn't force the Governor of NY to not send COVID positive people to nursing homes full of extremely at risk people.
But he could harass the shit out of Governors (one, to the point that a group of Trump loving nut jobs plotted to kidnap and assassinate her) that refused to reopen their schools and businesses against the advice of the CDC, and their own state health expert officials.
Trump made two hospital ships available, but he couldn't force either state to actually use them.
A too late to the game failed PR stunt.

shrug...

Call it what you want, but Trump isn't guilty of this.

I'm thinking your ass is chapped because you can't honestly blame this on Trump.

which dumbasses haven't figured that out yet?

the dumbasses that eat the fox lies????

I'm surprised it's not more.

?? There were no "Trump Russian collusion lies". There was a perfectly reasonable special council investigation that was, by far, the most productive in American history.

While I do agree that Trump can't be blamed for actions taken by certain states, he still could have worked more with the states to come up with a more unified response. Instead he did what he is best at, and used it as another issue to dived people. If he would have been like Bush after 911, he would still be President today.

Nonsense. Utter nonsense.

It's a President's job to try to avoid panic. Trump did his job.

He did develop a national strategy. Unfortunately, the governors made their own decisions...which they had the right to do.

All they have are estimates on the so called superspreaders. But why are they focusing on Trump and ignoring the other ones by the Democrats?

Hydroxychoroquine HAS been shown to be an effective medical treatment. There might have been FEWER deaths if the states and medical community hadn't been so focused on opposing Trump.

Bye.

They were likely conservative. It's not an exact thing. Remember estimates earlier that he caused up to 80% of the people who were killed.
At the least.

It was his job to inform us of the facts. Maybe you consider yourself too weak to handle it, but I don't. Most American's wouldn't. Just the Trump bootlickers I suppose.
