Kum & Go is going away. Its new owner is rebranding all of its locations

Well that crushes a little piece of fun for those of us with an 8th grade sophistication of humor.

You have to wonder why now?

Nobody here in Iowa thinks anything of the name, because it’s been that way from the start. Kum & Go, Quik Trip, Git-N-Go, Kwik Star, Casey’s- the state is full of them.

To think that Bill Krause began with one gas station in a little rural town in northern Iowa and grew the business to 400 locations in 13 states, that’s pretty successful, no matter the name.

The owner of Kum & Go sold out to Maverik a year and a half ago. Changing the branding over was always going to happen, but Maverik said at the time of the sale that they weren’t in any hurry to do it.

Lol, I would have been in a hurry. That was just an awful name. If they'd spelled it Come....not so bad.

It’s just a name to us. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Nobody thinks twice about it. Nice, modern stores in locations near me.

The guys who started the business were Bill Krause and Tony Gentle. K and G by their last names, thus Kum & Go. Funny thing- my father and Bill Krause were fraternity brothers at The University of Iowa.

The advertising cliche, back in the day, was that a misspelled sign attracted attention. So the dummies ran with it.

It would not have made it my store of choice. I don't think we had them here anyway though, so...

another casualty of the woke mob smh
You mean the woke mob named Maverik out of Salt Lake City, Utah that bought out the entire chain of Kum & Go stores, previously valued at $2 billion by Reuters in 2023? I would think that it’s only logical that after an acquisition of that size, the buyer would want to rebrand them under their own name and logo.
