WASHINGTON (AP) — Olympic gold medalist swimmer Klete Keller, who threw his USA team jacket in a trash can after he stormed the U.S. Capitol, was sentenced on Friday to six months of home detention for joining the mob’s Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the seat of American democracy.

At 6-foot-6, Keller towered over police officers guarding the Capitol and other Donald Trump supporters who breached the building, and he was quickly identified by authorities. He pleaded guilty in 2021 to a felony charge and was one of the first rioters to publicly agree to cooperate with authorities investigating the Capitol attack.

Video captured Keller leading profane chants directed at then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, both Democrats.
He also joined a chorus of rioters in singing the national anthem in the middle of the Capitol. He resisted efforts to remove him from the Capitol, ripping an elbow away and shaking off a police officer, prosecutors said.

Never heard of the guy, so did a quick Google search. Sad, not uncommon story of a world class athlete losing himself after the fame ends and real life challenges ensue.

Still, responsible for his actions, and should be thankful of the sentence he received.

He was FOR America...

before he was against America.

"He also joined a chorus of rioters in singing the national anthem in the middle of the Capitol."

OMG! Life in prison is too good....Can't have the national anthem being sung in the middle of the Capitol....

He sang the National Anthem and ripped an elbow away, what an outlaw.
The whole time he was there, that's all he did? Amazing.

So if you are committing a crime it's ok if you sign the national anthem. interesting.

And Traitor Trump said “peacefully and patriotically”, once. 🙄

Keller wasn’t charged with singing our national anthem.

The very least you ought to do before jumping in to defend someone is to familiarize yourself with what actually happened.

The report says he 'ripped his elbow away' Thats some crime. Tell me, how many BLM protesters got charged and convicted of that?

That would be an assault on a police officer in any other circumstance. You would be fine with a BLM protestor being charged with that, why are you not ok with him?
There's a word for that.

If all you have is to mischaracterize what I said, then we have nothing to discuss.

I always find it weird when Jan 6 apologists bring up BLM, when 9/10 times they were calling for BLM's blood in the streets for doing what they did. How does invoking the name of BLM give the Jan 6 crowd a pass? I feel like attempting to show hypocrisy in this situation (despite it being a false equivalence) only highlights your own. Why is this tactic used so often?

(Question is strictly about methodology, I'm not super interested in the dysfunctional behaviour analytics for either BLM or Jan 6 dummies)

There were riots all year. How many left wing protesters were charged with ripping their elbow away?

What is mischaracterized here? You acted like signing the national anthem was a get-out-of-jail card in this case.

How do you get everything wrong? Me bringing up how other people engaged in riots that year were treated is a legitimate comparison unless, of course, you arent interested in equal justice. Which you clearly are not. But you are a lib so no one expects you to be.

The simple answer is that it doesn't....Those who entered the Capitol that day, did so under their own decision...However, we have seen that people that never entered the Capitol that day were swept up for simply being on the grounds....What'd they do?
