Kevin McCarthy, other top Republicans vow to scrap IRS hiring

Kevin McCarthy, other top Republicans vow to scrap IRS hiring plans if they win House majority

Why is MAGA celebrating this potential repeal? All this does is catch up the back log of planned audits. Hopefully, this will keep more tax payers honest in the future.
For the life of me I can't figure out why MAGA is supporting a scrapping of the additional agents.
This will have no effect on any honest American and not affect regular folks as they simply don't have the ability to hide monies as business owners and corporations do.
So why? Why will the red hat support this repeal?
Because all of the folks in trailer park nation are afraid they are going to get audited. Because. Reasons.

They gotta protect their rich friends.

Yep. Like someone is going to audit a deplorable. Crazy. And even if they did, what would they get? Their shot gun?

LOL, what losers.

Fake Republicans know how to destroy efficiency by running departments under staffed which cost more tax dollars ......of course tax dollars cheats like many in the Fake Republican Party love
understaffing because it impedes enforcement I would assume = no other explanation could possibly make sense.

In total how much would you say you didn't report to the irs, fifty, a hundred thousand each year you worked as a server/tender? Did the irs come at you with ar-15's pointed in your face?
I think it’s safe to say across the service industry the amount of none reported tips results in hundreds of millions if not a few billion dollars in unreported income.

Was the need for this many new agents ever explained or debated? If republicans run on defunding the expansion of the authoritarian state and win, then you libs can rejoice in the fact the democracy has prevailed.

But you wont

Over 50,000 IRS agents are expected to retire over the next five years. So the hirings are not exactly as significant as the fearmongering GQP wants to make it.

*Message brought to you by the party that complains the poor don't pay their fair share in taxes*

Give me a break. Yes, there is definitely an argument the IRS unfairly targets the poor. There can be a few reasons for that:

1. the poor are more likely to engage in black market business. Obviously earnings from an illegal exchange are not going to be reported.
2. the poor cannot afford tax attorneys to help them navigate the system
3. the IRS has a tight budget that limits their ability to go after the rich

I will be more direct: the republican claim of 87,000 "new" agents is a flat lie to scare up its base. And it has obviously worked because their followers are still making this claim despite it being totally false.
  • the funding provides for IRS hiring over a period of 10 years;
  • not all the hires are in enforcement (ie auditing)
  • as you mentioned, 50k-80k IRS agents are expected to retire in the next 5 years
  • the IRS has lost 17% of its workforce since 2010
  • the treasury department is hemorrhaging hundreds of billions in uncollected, but owed taxes;
  • the 87k number the pubbies have misleadingly seized upon was merely an estimate of the number of IRS employees that could be hired given the amount of funding.
In short, the 87k "new" agents being hired to go out and start auditing all of America is a blatant lie of the republicans.

I don’t GAF about the libs. I care very much about preserving America. For my grandchildren.
So, hiring 67,000 IRS agents over the next 10 years, which will help supplement existing agents, but also help replace agents who retire or change professions, will
end America? You may have to provide a little evidence for this claim.

If republicans are serious they will have the power of the purse and can defund many things. Biden can of course veto if he wants to be viewed as the guy who shut down the government.
I'm pretty sure if R's tried to take away funding for the IRS and Biden vetoed their bill, he would explain to Americans who are smarter than MAGA that the funding
is to make sure that companies like Amazon and individuals like Bezos pay their fair share, the voters would know who to blame for a shutdown.

You make it sound like everyone cheats on their taxes. A person may be able to get away with that kind of thing for a year or two before it kicks up red flags in the system and the irs contacts you about your 'irregularities'.
You asked. I answered.

$50 says Fletch won't even read that. Too many words. No crayons. And it makes his post look stupid, since everyone knows this was discussed, disclosed, and debated - repeatedly.
In fairness to @Fletch, the usual stupidity expressed in his posts is self evident. ;)

Wow. The hatred and bile you spew with every post you type is unmatched, but this time at least, it cost you $50

Whats funny is that I was going to compliment you on actually putting a mature, thoughtful reply out there in your previous post. Musta been a fluke. Nice to see that NPR ran a 4 minute piece on the topic, but the solution really isnt an army of bureaucrats but a simplification of the tax code.

Great! I hope they succeed - 89 billion dollars can be spent in some much better ways.

Yet the GOP isn’t calling for a simplification of the tax code.

Yeah, well, you’re routinely laughed at for your nutty posts, so I don’t think that means much to anyone in charge of anything.

But adding IRS staff to an understaffed agency to improve service is a rational thing to do, no matter what your fantasy tax ideas are.

It was (partly) a joke. You musta missed the “;)”.

Trump simplified the tax code for ordinary folks like us. He even threw in a few temporary crumbs for 99.99% of Americans at the same time he gave enormous permanent benefits to the wealthiest Americans, reportedly telling friends at Mar-a-Lago "You all just got a lot richer”, the day he signed his tax law.

Fact is, Republican officials don’t want to cut IRS staff to protect you and me. They want to cut IRS staff to protect their own wealth, and the wealth of those that fund their campaigns and line their pockets.

Im sure that to kook fringe leftist loons my posts seem quite nutty. And im ok with that.

I'd be careful patting yourself on the back too much given that in this very thread you repeated the republican talking point/lie that the IRS is hiring 87,000 "new IRS agents" as a result of the infrastructure bill passed by the Biden administration.

Correction: The Republicans have proven to be the Party of Authoritarianism.
