^Kelly didn't do anything different than dozens of posters here do on a daily basis, or what millions of normal people her age do on twitter/facebook every day. IMO, the people who complain about celebrities voicing their political opinions simply feel threatened by it.
Kelly Brianne Clarkson (born April 24, 1982) is an American pop rock singer-songwriter and actress. Clarkson came into prominence after becoming the winner of the inaugural season of the television series American Idol in 2002 and would later become the runner-up in the television special World Idol in 2003.
If you read the link you realize she wasn't complaining...I could care less what or who CC endorses. It will not impact me in any way. But when you're a celebrity you are naive if you think fans all agree with you politically. There's plenty of precedent to that. As you mentioned, see Dixie Chicks, So if you choose to go public, acting surprised when there's backlash is pretty silly.
"Man, my eyes have been opened to so much hate tonight," Clarkson wrote. "If y'all ever disagree with something I say, please don't feel the need to attack me. I will listen to what you say and any articles or viewpoints you have when you say it with respect. Being hateful is not a healthy way to get people to see or hear you."
"If you don't agree with me simply unfollow me," she added. "It's really that easy."
No different than anyone here "endorsing" a candidate. I openly support Huntsman, so that is essentially an endorsement.I kind of wondered why a pop star would endorse a candidate and who would care, but to each their own.
Barring severe extreme views, I've never understood why people let a musician's political view influence what they listen to. One person I particularly like is way too liberal for my tastes, but that just tells me we'll cancel each other's vote. I still like his music, though.Whoever stops becoming a fan of a musician they like because of their political views is an idiot.
I'm not really into Kelly Clarkson's music, but I really admire her for being her own person. In both her personal and professional lives she does not bow to the status quo. She states and does what she believes, without being over-the-top or obnoxious about it.
But her sales for her new CD increased 192% on Amazon.

People in this country take celebrity **** too seriously.
Personally I don't enjoy it when artists start in on politics when I'm at a concert. Even if they share my views. I go there to listen to music. And that's what I am paying for...not a lecture.
And this didn't happen at a concert, it's not like she was injecting politics into a musical event where spectators pay to see her perform
This was on her TWITTER feed ffs.
Agree completely, though I will admit Ted Nugent was entertaining if only for his honest extremism.Personally I don't enjoy it when artists start in on politics when I'm at a concert. Even if they share my views. I go there to listen to music. And that's what I am paying for...not a lecture.
