Kavanaugh nomination advances amid call for FBI probe, Senate vote delay

AWESOME!

Now to a vote in the Senate.

If he wins? Fine.

If not? Trump can put up his next pick (a female) and we'll see how the Dems try to "Bork" her nomination.

At least they had a hearing for Bork. Repubs pretended Garland never existed.

As a 'left libertarian' you should be happy Bork never got in. He believed in executive supremacy.

Kavanaugh misplayed his hand; if he is seated, it will accelerate the crapstorm heading for America, imo.

Well I will wait for the FBI report, which as far as I know a full copy is provided to the Senate. Unredacted of course.
Never did buy that choir boy BS

No it isn't. the scope of the investigation is limited to the accusation.
this isn't a witch hunt that you guys like.

they will interview
ford,
kavanaugh
PJ
Judge
and her friend

that is it.

they will collect the statements from them again
and then they will turn them back over to the senate.

the only added information is them investigating this new guy that says it was him
that attacked her and collecting his statement.

Investigations are like water seeking its own level. They go wherever the lay of the land takes them.

It was confidential, until Prof Fords name was leaked.

If I wanted to keep something confidential, sending it to my Senator would not be the first think I thought of.

Actually this likely holds true Flake stated it might take only 2 days.

There really is NOT MUCH more to investigate. Here testimony did NOT provide any more grounds to investigate further.

the 4 people are ON record they have the right to decline any further interviews as they provided a LEGAL sworn statement.

with that, I was listing to the other Senator that stated the process... the FBI was given the additional info from Feinstein and Grassley I think and they did what the did and Closed their file. So while there was NO full blown investigation they are aware and did some due diligence already?

So what happens when the FBI finds a smoking gun and Trump says the FBI is corrupt and we can't rely on them?

YOU are determining who will be interviewed? Who really knows what other names will pop up and the direction the investigation will take. This could have been done already if republicans hadn't fought against it.

If I wanted to keep something confidential, sending it to my Senator would not be the first think I thought of.

I was only sent when he was on the short list for SCOTUS.

no they are not. they are restricted to the allegations of the charge.
they are not allowed to go on a wild goose chase.

unless those friends or classmates have any knowledge of this party and so far there are only 3 named eye witnesses
the FBI is not going to ask out side of that.

You work for the FBI? How did you suddenly become an expert in what the FBI does? And since when do we tell the FBI they are restricted in what they investigate. Not working well in the Mueller probe is it?

If I wanted to keep something confidential, sending it to my Senator would not be the first think I thought of.

If I was seeking justice and my Civic duty my Senator would not be the first person I think of.

OF all the people that Ford' discussed her assault with, NOT a SINGLE ONE said go to the police and report it? NOT ONE? Not the Psychologist, not her Husband Not Diane Feinstein, NOT her staff.. NOT one said you need to go to the police and file it.......

You work for the FBI? How did you suddenly become an expert in what the FBI does?

She is praying that more names will not surface, more allegations not emerge.

So, all that's required to get a "respectable" nominee to withdraw is a last-minute allegation with no supporting evidence, contradicted by everyone who was supposed to be a witness?

Great. That's easy.

"Respectable?" This guy is one of the worst if not THE worst candidate to come along in a long time. He does't even poll well with the general public.

YOU are determining who will be interviewed? Who really knows what other names will pop up and the direction the investigation will take. This could have been done already if republicans hadn't fought against it.

Waiving the BS flag, YOU DO NOT need an FBI investigation to be heard of a claim or corroborating evidence. You either go to the police station and make a statement or Lawyer up and make a statement.

What other names? FBI wont determine other names. PEOPLE willing to testify or make a case is who will be heard.......

as soon as the FBI received the complaint they stuck it in the background file with his other information as is required.
that is all they will do.

if asked to look into it they are not going to go hunting down people that weren't there.
they are not going to ask everyone that these people know about it.

they are going to collect the same statements again and turn it back over to the white house.

I agree i think something did happen to her.
I think she was attacked at a high school party.

I do not think that Kavanaugh had anything to do with it.

there is no evidence to suggest that he did and 4 sworn tesimonial statements that say they have no knowledge of said event.

she presented 0 evidence during the hearing to corroborate her story.

what makes me sick is the disgusting and deplorable behavior of senate democrats acting as if what she said was true.
they are basically accusing him of sexual assault/rape.

they are the base of the base and the lowest of humanity to call someone a sexual predator without actual evidence to support it.
they are a disgrace to democracy and to our way of freedom.

It just sucks when you think things are going along swimmingly and someone throws a wrench in the spokes doesn't it?

Then we must live with that. Just a comprehensive investigation of the allegation on the Judiciary Committee record.

From what I understand that would be 2 possibly 3. Not sure on that.

Then we get into the details of 'what is a comprehensive investigation'? None of these have a specific timeframe, and cover a period of years. The Ford one appears to be more limited, but the others are more open ended.

I'm not sure you could even find a crime to investigate in the second two allegations either -- 'he got drunk and showed me his pee-pee at a party' wouldn't get you a ticket, and the Avonetti person didn't really accuse him of anything beyond attending wild parties.

The question was: What makes him not a "respectable nominee"?

You didn't answer.

Does one unsubstantiated allegation from high school or college wipe out decades of good honorable service?

I responded to that but I guess you ignored it.

From the other thread, you attack my character in public and see how I react. This woman is an opportunist and a typical leftist, there are consequences for failure to act in a reasonable amount of time. She didn't, he is a shrill for the radical left and this tells exactly what is wrong with the left today.

By accusing Christine Blasey Ford as being nothing but an opportunist you're showing yourself to be a misogynist and definitely a close-minded conservative.

Christine Blasey Ford is a professor at Palo Alto University and teaches in a consortium with Stanford University. She grew up in an affluent D.C. suburb and her parents were Bush conservatives. She attended an elite all-girls school. She holds a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology: Research Design, and has a teaching/research emphasis in statistics. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and received higher degrees from Pepperdine University, USC and Stanford. This all hardly sounds like a woman who is seeking fame or has some kind of 'radical left-wing agenda'.

For your information, Christine Blasey Ford made her concerns known about Brett Kavanaugh BEFORE Trump made his final decision to nominate him for the Supreme Court, NOT AFTER. Professor Ford had read the short list of potential nominees when they were published and when she saw Brett Kavanaugh's name on the list, it was then that she called her congressional representative and let her receptionist know that someone on the President’s shortlist had attacked her. She also sent a message to The Washington Post’s confidential tip line. and didn't give her name, but she provided the names of Brett Kavanaugh and Mark Judge.

"Respectable?" This guy is one of the worst if not THE worst candidate to come along in a long time. He does't even poll well with the general public.

:lamo

The ABA labeled him "Well qualified".

Your lot hates him because somwhere in your minds, he's going to nuke RvW, which is bull****.

So what happens when the FBI finds a smoking gun and Trump says the FBI is corrupt and we can't rely on them?

WHAT DOES TRUMP HAVE TO DO WITH THIS, dont bring him in this he has NOTHING to do with the investigation.

IF the FBI finds a smoking gun, DUE process will happen

1) If its a "smoking gun" Kavannagh will have to retraction his nomination
2) the public and the senate will have no choice but to accept the validation and either require a lengthy delay full investigate to included likely a criminal hearing where a smoking gun would make him guilty of a felony. He would go to Jail.
3)Kavannagh is GONE.

THAT IS IF they find a smoking gun. What will YOU do if they FIND nothing and close the file WILL you accept the terms or "resist"

The FBI is responsible for vetting and therefore they very much have a stake in it if Trump determines additional vetting is necessary. The allegations against Kavanaugh occurred after his previous vetting. Given what we have heard, with attention to the position for which Kavanaugh is being considered additional investigation is very much warranted.

That is part of the insanity of this entire process. If the FBI had investigated the allegations against Kavanaugh in the beginning we'd be further down the road. For reasons we don't know the GOP members of the committee have done everything they could to avoid the FBI being involved.

The committee did not subpoena the very person who could have likely exonerated Kavanugh rather quickly, Mark Judge, the alleged 3rd person in the room. The GOP members on the committee have repeatedly attempted to avoid Mark Judge as much as Mark Judge has avoided the committee. Yes, Mark Judge, did make a statement to the committee through his attorney. He said he has no recollection of the event. Mark Judge's statement was not a deposition. Answering questions from the FBI is an entirely different ballgame.

In addition, Kavanaugh was surprisingly vague yesterday. He was at times unhinged. He contradicted some previous statements he made. If most men and women in the military who have been vetted for clearances for much lesser jobs had assed around questions as Kavanaugh did yesterday I am fairly certain the FBI would have additional work to do.

you are so out of touch but that is what i expect.
There were no allegations against kavanaugh while they were investigating him.
During his SCOTUS investigation nothing was turned up and they found no allegations of wrong doing or sexual assault.

Judge has already stated he has no knowledge of the event in question.
No FBI investigation is going to change that.

This is not going to be a witch hunt like you think.
they will collect the witness statements and turn it over to the committee and senate.

no the only vague person was Ford.

When it id happen?

I don't know

where did it happen? I don't know
how did you get there? I don't know
how else was there? these 3 people.

who else was there? i don't know.

all 3 people have signed statements that they have no knowledge of any party and her best friend even said that she doesn't know kavanaugh or any party that
all those people were there.

He has a right to be unhinged he has been accused of being a mass serial rapist and drug dealer basically.
and for some reason out of 6 FBI investigations they just missed all of that amazing isn't it.

the FBI has issues if they missed one of the biggest serial raping gangs out there.

What other names? FBI wont determine other names. PEOPLE willing to testify or make a case is who will be heard.......

Its very possible that people who will be interviewed by the FBI will come up with new names of people to talk to.

It was confidential, until Prof Fords name was leaked.

Sure it was.

The latest story I heard is that the letter went to not only Feinstein, but WaPo. That's about as confidential as it gets.

A question remains, however. If you are a ranking person in the Senate, and you are participating in a hearing that you believe is a world game changer such as a lifetime swing vote in the highest court in the land, and you have extremely pertinent info, should you not bring that info up prior or at least during the hearing rather than a few days later?

Keep in mind. You're sworn to uphold the Constitution, not some anonymous request from someone who has already sent her allegation to a congresswoman (actually 2) and the WaPo. Signed, of course.

Any investigation should have been done 2 months ago. Feinstein held the info until after the hearings. Ford could have remained unknown, but Feinstein (and I'm sure Schumer, really) decided to use it as a delaying tactic, and screw Ford. Then they are praising her for showing up, as if they couldn't have done anything to prevent it.

As I've said before, funny how everything they do amounts to a delay and more delays. There's no reason for this superfluous investigation to take place now.

Well comprehensive can be wide ranging, but from what I know the FBI will only investigate what was on record with the JC
I will leave that to the FBI and support the final report, based upon the Senate Leaders (Maj-Min) both receiving an unredacted completed report, from the FBI, not the WH. That report then would be read by all members of the Senate
