OK, not really, but close enough!

On a teleconference Wednesday with the heads of the FBI's 55 field offices, Patel suggested that he wants the FBI to establish a formal relationship with the UFC, which could develop programs for agents to improve their physical fitness, said sources who had been briefed on Wednesday's call.

The virtual meeting with each field office's special-agent-in-charge has long been a weekly occurrence, but this week's call was the first led by Patel, who was sworn in as director on Friday.

Within hours of Wednesday's call, word of Patel's UFC proposal spread to current and former FBI officials around the country.

"If they're trying to up their physical fitness, the UFC is very specific in their fitness," said ABC News contributor Rich Frankel, the former special agent in charge of the FBI's Newark, New Jersey, office.

It's not clear exactly what Patel would want UFC to do or provide to help improve fitness among FBI ranks.

I suppose next week we'll find out that Patel wants to partner with Tom Cruise and Daniel Craig so they can learn how to be better agents.

What sort of fitness experts does the UFC have on staff? The UFC is the "league" - it'd be like saying we want the NFL or the NBA to help with fitness.

Fighters and their trainers are independent entities, not part of "the UFC" as I understand it. Just like teams and their internal staff are not part of the NFL or NBA league staff.

What a ****ing moron.

No one knows more about fitness than Marvel.

I mean look at this guy...

Now there's a man who gets confessions and doesn't need no stinking warrant.

Not a fan or defender of Patel or Trump, so don’t get me wrong here, but if FBI training and continuing training includes elements of fitness, grappling, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, and other MMA fighting techniques then what is the issue?

They could just go to local gyms where there is actual instruction. UFC doesn't offer training.

That is not accurate at all. UFC sanctions and established everything from basic instruction to internal development of some of their top fighters.

Yes, fighters. They don't train regular people.

You ignored all of the post, the point is they can train just about anyone. Why not take advantage?

I expected Crazytown from Patel, and he has delivered.

The inherent corruption of the idea?

This guy gets it:

What’s the difference between UFC, some other MMA, or the “local gym?” Someone is getting paid at each.

I actually believed CNN could have written your original title. They just would have never admitted they made it up. 🤣

I get it, it’s Patel and Trump, all bad. And normally I’d agree but if the FBI can obtain additional skill and fitness I’d be for that. Why deny just because of Patel and Trump? (And White apparently.)

The difference is that Dana White has been pushing Trump for years now. This is simply some quid pro quo.

Do you somehow have a notion that the FBI runs around fist fighting with bad guys?

This is sounding more and more like general response to all things opposition over reasonable discussion on this subject.

Not only that, UFC fighters train to fight in a ring, not in the street. Its impractical.

God help us.

I have been in homicide for a couple of decades now, and I have yet to have to fist fight any goons.

It's strange, but what we do instead is make sure there are more cops than bad guys. Cops with, you know, guns and stuff.

Now, if the FBI is in harm's way, 99.9% of the time, the bad guys have guns. But I'm sure a little MMA training will handle that. I, too, have seen the Reacher series. And Mission Impossible. And Superman.

Had Patel pitched that he wants his agents to get self defense training, all would be well. But to suggest the UFC, which trains people to fight in a ring, and has an existing relationship with Trump, it just more corruption in plain sight.
