The searing images of panic and desperation in the airport, can only evoke empathy from a viewer like me, as we painfully and helplessly watch (in the comfort of our living rooms), and await what is most dreaded and feared by so many. This brings to mind the unforgettable images based on true events movies:


- Dark of The Sun during the Congo crisis (1968, Rod Taylor)

-The Killing Fields



They were supposed to have 30 days before Kabul was expected to fall.
When that was announced, I questioned how it can last 30 days when Kabul was already surrounded?
I also pointed out how come US soldiers are to arrive on Sunday, when it might be too late?
They should've been on stand-by, somewhere close....................... days , if not weeks before!

Someone being interviewed says USA looks like a coward - running away!
And its' true! They're all panicked and scrambling.
This will make a great propaganda for A-lQaeda and the Taliban

No words from Biden so far!



Someone mentioned - this would make another good Mike Banning FALLEN movie.

I was just craving an Afghanistan thread in the rare bolded font called Manic Marmalade. I would have preferred the use of an italicized Angry Donut, but I can't doubt true expertise.

Images of them clinging to the C-17 as it was taxing make Saigon look tame. Biden and his team have failed miserably here. Pelosi needs to open an investigation when the dust settles

The only "cowards" are the people who, after 20 years of training and trillions of OUR taxpayer dollars, are running to stop a plan rather than standing up and fighting for their own nation!

We fought THEIR battles for 20 years, and they dare call us the cowards? No.

All of the people involved in this are afghans, and if all they want to do is surrender to the taliban, its on them. We have them all this time, energy, and resources, they chose to do nothing.

Absolutely...lets have a complete investigation into the screwy idea of bribing an army and government into fighting a Civil War it is simply not committed to fight.

I have just read an opinion piece at Politico about the writer's ideas regarding the failure of the Afghan army to fight back.

Bottom line: The Americans did not understand or decided to ignore the intricate relationships between various Afghan factions.

Sometimes, the author claims, it depends on trade, e.g., who shares in the profits of the heroin trade.

He claims that for months now, the Taliban have been making deals with other factions regarding local issues on which they could compromise.

BOTTOM LINE: Let the Afghans be Afghans.

We will get our people out. We will even get many of the interpreters out. I doubt we will get all of the interpreters out.

And we cannot get past years of bribing a government and an army to fight a Civil War they did not want to fight unless we address it.

For years this was called "the forgotten war". Ain't so forgotten now.....IS IT!
 
I also feel so sorry for all Afghans who had supported NATO/UN troops - and are now abandoned!
All nations who have benefitted from them should've been there - helping to get them out!

They've put their lives - and their family's on the line. They placed their trust in us.
It is shameful, and INHUMANE....................................... how they have been used!



How can we expect others to support us in the future when they see how these people have been betrayed and left to fend for themselves?
We know the most likelihood will be a most public execution for these people to set an example as to what happens to those
who side with the US and other enemy nations.

CNN keeps showing Biden's photo, alone in the conference room facing multiple tv screens.

Not only interpreters. We're also talking drivers, civilian personnel working with the forces, etc..,
That's what happens when we scramble at the last minute.


.......even CNN, surprisingly, had acknowlegded, Biden's promises did not materialize.

They should've had the foresight to see that coming once it was announced US will be withdrawn............................ and, getting out
all those who helped us, should have been planned way ahead!

And that scramble will force us to look at these Nation Building efforts honestly and recognize that they are BULLSHIT. Wittingly or not, this scramble is going to force us to deal with the fact that we have bribed a government and an army to fight a Civil War they were not committing to fight. Made obvious only by their complete disappearance and unwillingness to fight for their own country once the big US checkbook was about to close. My God we already have reports that some simply took their arms and joined the Taliban and a President Ghani high tailing it out of town weighted down by suitcases full of greenbacks.

I will take the OPTICS of this mess for an opportunity for the American People to look this nonsense straight in the face and not allow it again.

It's called a teleconference or Zoom meeting. They are quite common during the last year and a half of the pandemic the world is still involved in.
