We should be processing asylum visas for the women and children and Afghanistan by the hundreds of thousands.

My strategy for destroying the Taliban is simple: Get all their wives, sisters and daughters out of the country and wait fifty years. The problem will solve itself.
 
Ned Price @ US State drew the short straw today and gave a troubling briefing on the deteriorating situation in Afghanistan.
Now US troops are returning to support the evacuation of US and allied personnel.

Only the females of Afghanistan can win the war in Afghanistan. Only empowerment can change.

Why wouldn't it be? Even if the Taliban were able to take Kabul by that date - and there's no certainty they will - they don't need our Embassy to overrun the city. All that will do is rain fire on their heads, and "invite" us back in under the worst circumstances. If anything, they'd welcome our Embassy there. It would be one step closer to international recognition of their government.

The Taliban want to run Afghanistan - not see it turned to rubble.

I don't think the Taliban are worried about anything - including a few dozen US Marines who will never come out from behind the walls of their Embassy, because their only job there is to defend it - not retake Kabul.

It would seem that there is only a “skeleton” staff there now. I would hope that the State Department have the sense not to put the Marines or anyone else in harm’s way”

Hey - if Foggy Bottom thinks it's prudent, who am I second guess? It's their call. "increasing violence in the city" might trigger a State Department protocol. It's not like they've never had an Embassy overrun. We know it can happen in any Islamic country. But that doesn't mean it's Taliban.
 
I think the Taliban will take Kabul within 30 days.

I am so glad I was not serving in Afghanistan in this century.
Bad enough I was serving in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam conflict.
In both cases, what a waste of blood and treasure.
I am glad we are pulling out. I am saddened by the fact that there will be tens of thousands of Afghans who supported us put to death by the avenging Taliban.
We saw it happen in Vietnam in 1975 and now we will see it again.
And the Biden Administration was just too stupid to see this one coming.
They knew what they were going to do almost seven months ago.
National politics trumped saving the lives of tens of thousand of innocent Afghans soon to be slaughtered who have no way out.

The Pentagon is sending troops to Karzai International Airport in Kabul to help evacuate U.S. embassy as the Taliban continues its offensive in Afghanistan. In the past week, the Taliban has overtaken at least 10 provincial capitals and Kandahar City is "in the process of falling" according to a U.S. official.




Pentagon spokesman John Kirby confirmed Tuesday afternoon that more 3,000 military personnel are being sent to Kabul in the next 24-48 hours, plus additional 1,000 personnel to Qatar to help with the procesing of Special Immigrant Visa applicants in the coming days.

The country is rapidly falling to the Taliban and they are within 90 miles of Kabul now. We probably should have kept a "peacekeeping" force there rather than pulling out like we did. Then again it's obvious the majority of Americans wanted us out, and Afghanistan isn't South Korea and most likely never will be.
