June PCE Report: PCE Inflation Index Up 2.6%, Stronger Than Expected

The bolded is where I have my concerns. My gut is all this uncertainty has frozen hiring/firing.
I know layoffs area at numbers not seen since Covid so that doesn't sound good for hiring. It's the segments that are not hiring that is the concern for the last month or two hiring has been in the public sector (ie government) , healthcare and services. Not in manufacturing nor the private sector in general.

" Notably, job growth is not widespread, indicating that the biggest opportunities are within a select few industries. The vast majority of the month’s gains were in health care (+58,600 jobs), leisure and hospitality (+20,000 jobs), and state and local government (+80,000 jobs*). [*The sharp increase here is likely “artificial,” economists for Pantheon Economics cautioned. More on that below.]

And when stripping out the public sector gains (the +80,000 was offset slightly by a loss of 7,000 jobs federally), US private sector businesses added 74,000 jobs in June, the smallest monthly gain since October 2024."

Free trade is a conservative principle. Economic growth through pro-business policy is a conservative method. Isolationism is science fiction in the 21st century, but beyond that, conservative domestic economic policy has favored free trade.

Trump's trade war is a period drama set in the early 20th century. It blends the futility of tariffs with the growing fascist movement. Trump doesn't care about economics. He's using disproven 20th century isolationist policy to threaten the world, thus elevating himself to world dictator. A worldwide fascist empire, led by Donald Trump.

Theoretically though, the conservative position is how I described it. There really is no conservative economic populist movement. The term is oxymoronic. We do have a conservative social populist movement, but I question this as well. Exaggerating transgender rights and focusing on race, both by the Biden administration and right-wing media, had an effect on voters. But when all is said and done, many people looking back are saying, "I didn't vote for this."

I was only messing with you a bit on Conservatism. I'm good with Conservatism. I was pointing-out MAGA is not Conservatism!

Thanks. That was a pretty good article. Especially the section on determining the break-even job replacement level.

No, inflation has been in a range for over a year now. But since the FED isw perfectly content with a 2% inflation rate, can you tell me why a 2.6% inflation rate has you so excited?

The same reason 2.6% had Republicans so excited last summer, I reckon.

🤷‍♂️

It's not whataboutism. It's a direct refutation of an idiotic statement.

"And inflation is now accelerating again."

Inflation is NOT accelerating.
Its funny because in another thread you said wages were putpacing inflation by double.

Wage growth is at 3%. Inflation 2.6%.

Stop wasting everyone's time with lies about things.

Will Trump Taco his upcoming Liberation Day plans? Tune into the next episode of reality show president to find out.
He just TACO'ed on Mexico. Expect more TACOing tomorrow. Trump's actions on tariffs and the economy are as predictable as a squirrel's movements with oncoming cars.

That's cheap compared to the peak of the bird flu pandemic.
True. But still quite a bit higher. You could get a dozen for $1.99, less if there was a special. My wife has a veterinary friend down the road. She has chickens. Just got a dozen for free. Finished our last batch on a leftover pasta frittata.

Are the price averages "accelerating"? Or are they just simply rising?

Please don't be like others and engage in hyperbole.
Rising is probably the better term at present. As the built-up inventories decline and the tariffs become fully implemented, then we will see prices accelerate.

Like tariffs, we haven't yet seen the full economic effects of Trump's ICE enforcement actions. Much less the effects of the aversion to the US Trump is creating among our allies.

You are dreaming if you think the short-term effects of these policies will be beneficial to our economy.

Long term effects won't be pretty either. Glad my kids aren't in the tourism industry. I hear Las Vegas is getting hammered.

I became a backyard chicken keep earlier this year so I'm now a member of a forum for such things. Someone got some eggs from a neighbor who said she was behind on her egg gathering. Well, that was an understatement...several of them were rotten and several others hatched chicks!

Wild story.

I think the totality of Trump's America First goals and the tactics he uses to achieve them will be beneficial to our economy.

Short term effects are easier to see. I think it's clear we will see adverse short term effects.

Mid and long term effects are harder to see. For example, in the mid-term it's possible that Trump's deregulation agenda will offset the damage from the tariffs. Businesses love deregulation.

My guess is that the long-term consequences will be adverse to our economy. And that may last decades. We are basically in the beginning of a forced change in the way the world economy sees the US. We will soon no longer be the shining city on the hill, but rather the mentally deranged uncle who only creates chaos in the family. Our trading partners will no longer trust us. They will seek better, more reliable partners. Once done, this will be hard to correct.

I watch my grandchildren 2 days a week at their house. About 2 years ago their parents got their first batch of chicks. Now we are on their third. It's been fun. I feed the kids lots of eggs and like interacting with the chickens. I thought it would be mostly a pain in the ass. But, I have to admit, I like having the chickens.
