July 4th 50-Gun Salute: Presidential Salute Battery, US Army Military District of Washington DC

You've been a funny guy for a long time so thx for the laffs.

Because each of you specialize in disrespect. In the broad daylight.

While certain other posters make no attempt at being respectable -- they don't know the notion -- each you and RexEdgar work hard to position yourselves falsely to have respectable views, positions, attitudes. The smokescreen is in fact transparent.
The only one "disrespected" is you and your positions. That's NOT a smokescreen.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Congratulations and thank you for your lifer nco service. We know nco's are the backbone of the military so without nco's the military could not exist. With nco's the military has lost every war since 1945.

I'll pass on "every war since 1945."

What I will say is in 1953 Ike pulled us out of the Korean Conflict. As a civilian elected political leader he set the standard from back then, ie, he pulled his punches rather than fight.

It was Nixon who fled Vietnam after his four year delay of much bloodshed. Nixon's The One.

Reagan got almost 300 Marines blown up sleeping in their billet in Lebanon while they were doing nothing anyway. Reagan had his head up his ass on that awful one.

Bush the father liberated Kuwait which was a good deal. Bush the Younger made a horrible mess of post 9/11, for everyone and for a long time of it.

Trump meanwhile couldn't get any GI's out of anywhere, miserable CinC that he was and never will be again. The armed forces wouldn't even join in on his insurrection. In the Military Times Pentagon authorized annual poll across all services and ranks, the only one of its kind, only Obama ranked lower (slightly) in approval than Trump did by the time Trump got run out of office to include by the military vote.

Throughout, NCOs supervise the force 24/7/365 training and bossing 'em year in and year out. The bunch of you who are rightwingers among the NCO corps have done a lousy job of it sergeant. Since 1945 indeed. Some officers are to blame too of course, such as the insurrectionist traitor Michael Flynn who needs to be court martialed. That will come last of course.

Pass all you want, it was YOUR post. None of your nonsense has ANY validity in fact. It's YOUR opinion and as we all see, that has NO VALIDITY either.

No, not currently on AD, as if that makes ANY difference.
However, retired since 1989, and worked in the defense industry as a Program Manager until 2012, so I apparently know more about the topic than you have been able to extrude.

It is not true.

As to the rest of your rambling it is the usual Tangmobabble.

Trying to turn this thread into another vapid and ignored Cadet thread?

Say anything.

I say you eternal needlers are "disrespectful" so you try to throw it back, same as the Mafioso Trump does as a lifetime routine practice.

To say I'm disrespectful.

Trolls. Since 2014. You found the right place eh.

Infantry marching in Kuwait representing the armed forces of the USA is Bravo Company, 1st BN, 3rd Infantry Regiment, The Old Guard of the Army, Ft. Myer, Arlington VA.

The march music played in the US Army march in Tokyo is "Grandioso" which the Pentagon adopted as, The Old Guard March for pass in review.

The style of marching of the American troops, swinging their arms loosely and walking with small strides, is traditional. They did so in Japan about 70 years ago, too.

As one North Korean soldier who did parades said, the American marching style is relaxed and easy because it demonstrates their physical care they have to their soldiers. To participate in North Korean parades means that drill and ceremony will result in major injuries, mainly in their legs. It's quite brutal to be able to pull off those ceremonies, but honestly it only shows the nations inadequacies being made up for with flashy formalities. The US doesnt flash its might in parades, it's quite modest up until it matters. At that point their power is overwhelmingly far above any other nation.

I just love the fact that the U.S doesn't do fancy marches like Russia or China, our march symbolizes freedom and democracy. Relax and cool.

To anyone wondering why we have a ton of parades in foreign countries and none over here, another reason is that most of it is geography and logistics. We don't have the long, wide roads or squares of Paris or Moscow or roads capable of supporting large armored vehicles in Washington D.C (our capital city). Our WW2 all military victory parade was the exception and it was held in New York instead.

As an American Afghanistan Veteran, let me explain a few things: 1) Our marching style is not as flamboyant as other militaries. That doesn’t mean we don’t have a specific style we are taught though. In the Marines, in boot camp, we where taught to swing our arms 6 inches to the front and 3 to the rear. Our legs would slightly goose step, and you drive your heels to the floor. This may seem “relaxed” to other marching styles, but trust me it is def our own style.

The LT at the right in the still screen shot is from the Military District of Washington DC. One can see the MDW shoulder patch of the Washington Monument and Sword insignia. He is platoon leader of the only Army ceremonial platoon in MDW, a single platoon. It was in 1948 that the Department of Defense designated 3rd Infantry Regiment, The Old Guard of the Army, as the official Army Memorial and Ceremonial Affairs unit, at Ft. Myer, VA, on the opposite high banks of the Potomac. 3 IR TOG is designated as the armed forces "Official Escort To The President."

The video clip shows the Marine Guard in Washington march on, pass in review, march off. The clip condenses the one hour ten minute weekly summer ceremony into ten minutes or less. The well known monument from World War II used to be called the Iwo Jima Statue but is more recently and officially the Marine Corps War Memorial. (In fact Japan changed the name of the island a decade or so ago where the Marines fought one of their toughest and most grueling battles of their distinguished history.)

The memorial is situated on a ridge of Arlington Heights VA on the high banks of the Potomac. To the immediate right of the camera view but just out of our view is Arlington National Cemetery. In between continuing up the Heights is South Gate of the Army post Ft. Myer, home of the 3rd Infantry Regiment, The Old Guard of the Army, and the residences of many Army generals at the Pentagon except for the 1-star officers. When I was stationed at Ft. Myer some of us now and then would just stroll down to the ridge to take in the summertime only ceremony.

Order/Sequence of Ceremony:

March on LTC commander of troops and ceremony staff. Adjutant Captain initiates the March On of the troops, two companies (only) Alpha & Bravo that are the Washington Marine Guard, from the Potomac side of the Memorial. Music: Bravura

Fix bayonets to the drum beat. (Done much faster than The Old Guard does it ha which is good.)

March On of the Colors. Music: You're a Grand Old Flag; Stars & Stripes Forever.

Pass In Review. (There are captain platoon leaders, which means the Marine Guard was short of LTs at the time.) Music: National Emblem March; Marine Corps Hymn.

Silver Taps. Two buglers, one out of view, play cascading (echo) taps. Firing Party salute (Firing three volleys not shown.)

Retire the Colors. Music: National Emblem March.

March off of troops: Music: Colonel Bogey March.

March Off Drum & Bugle Corps. Music: Officer of The Day March (also Deck).

USMC Silent Drill Platoon Performs at Sunset Parade

Each service in Washington DC has a Precision Drill Team yet only the Marine Guard has a Drill Platoon. I've always had the view a platoon for precision drill is too many, ie, it limits flexibility of maneuver and rifle tossing.

Anyway, at one point a drill team member not in the drill appears to select a team member to do a precision drill manual of arms. None of the team members know who will be selected. On the rifle toss through the air, you're not supposed to have to move your feet to receive the rifle twirling through the air. Nor should you have to bend or stoop. Definite no-nos.

This is a video of the annual Washington ceremonial guard Drill Off. It has the precision drill team of each service competing for the 1st Place Award among all services drill teams.

While we see a panning of joint services drill teams at the beginning of the video, the video shows only the winning drill team performance in full. And it's a dazzler it is.

First Place went to the Air Force Drill Team which makes their rifles look like airplane propellers. Propellers in front of 'em, above 'em, alongside 'em, in between 'em. With bayonets fixed it's killer stuff. (Europeans can't believe it even while they're seeing it ha. Asians just gape.)

A lively narration is throughout by an AF sergeant who calls each move, plugs the drill team members and plugs the AF and the Drill Team all over the place ha. He's shameless! This drill team commander is a Captain and the AF Drill Team is the only drill team of the armed services that pokes its leader with bayonets omg. Rifles as propellers as I said. Dazzling indeed. They have my full respect.

Most drill teams in the Washington armed service guards do a Gauntlet -- only the Marines and Coast Guard drill teams don't do one. The Gauntlet originated with the Army Drill Team at Ft. Myer circa 1959. The drill team leader marches quickly between the team members facing in two ranks spinning their rifles with bayonets attached. It's called the shave and a haircut moment ha but not announced as such ha. Extremely risky and exactly precise -- each time. The leader has full confidence in the team's members.

There's more of course. The two AF ceremonial guards we see standing behind the drill team and doing stand at ease are new aspiring members of the drill team who are in the final phase of their six month training and preparation to join the team. They're getting their on the scene orientation and prep for the day they can do this too. All the service drill teams have this procedure.

Allow me plse thx to plug my old outfit ha The Old Guard of the Army, the 3rd Infantry Regiment, Ft. Myer VA doing Pass in Review only at Summerall Field for a routine Army retirement ceremony and farewell to the group of retirees. As I said, the is the Pass in Review only without all the happy stuff one thing after another that occurs at a retirement ceremony (yawn). So as I say, Pass in Review only.

Reviewing Officer who we see at the conclusion is the MajorGeneral commander of the US Army Military District of Washington and CG of the Joint Task Force - National Capital Region of all services. Commander of troops is the Colonel commander of the 3 IR TOG. Behind the parade field is general officer housing.

Four of The Old Guard 7 Line Companies do this ceremony, as others are committed elsewhere, to include for the week doing full honors military funerals in Arlington National Cemetery Delta Company of 1st BN. Each regular company has two of its 3 platoons present.

Note: While the Fife & Drum Corps has a musician MOS, as does the Army Band of course, because FD&C is in an Infantry Regiment each member of the corps must successfully complete Army Basic Combat Training to become a member of FD&C and The Old Guard. So on 9/11 FD&C members were also in their battle rattle gear with the rest of the Regiment. FD&C were assigned to HQ Military District of Washington at Ft. McNair in the city, along the Potomac.

The Old Guard got into its battle rattle gear on 9/11.

Delta Company of 1st Battalion, the Regiment Rapid Reaction Force arrived first.

1st Battalion formed an armed security perimeter around the Pentagon.

A detail of troops of Alpha Company secured the largest size American Flag from their base of Ft. Myer and with Arlington County Firefighters draped it from the smoldering Pentagon Heliport side.

The Old Guard Remembers 9/11

The attacks on September 9/11 changed America forever. Many units responded to the fight on terrorism but only one Army unit was the first to respond to the attacks on the homeland. The Old Guard, America's oldest active infantry regiment, was the first armed forces unit on the scene at the Pentagon after the 9/11 attack.

Delta Company Rapid Reaction Force, 1st Battalion, arrives at Pentagon on 9/11.

Charlie Company 1st Battalion secured Ft. Myer which is the residence of more than two dozen Army generals to include the Army chief of staff, the Chairman JCS, and the AF chief of staff. Shortly after 9/11 3rd IR TOG was assigned a Military Police company to execute post security duties in a civil emergency.

Soldiers from Company B, 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment, 'The Old Guard'. This unit played a critical role in
maintaining volunteer cohesion, search & rescue operations, remains recovery, and security during the
emergency response following the attack.

Indeed, Bravo Company of the 1st Battalion, Echo Company Honor Guard Company of the 4th Battalion, and Alpha Company of the 4th Battalion, donned their Hazmat protective gear to conduct search and rescue inside the Pentagon. The mission changed to search and recovery until September 30th.

I'd mentioned in scrolling that while The Old Guard Fife & Drum Corps has a musician MOS, because it is in an Infantry Regiment each member must successfully complete Army Basic Combat Training to become a member of F&DC.
