Russia has suggested that Julian Assange should be awarded the Nobel peace prize, in an unexpected show of support from Moscow for the jailed WikiLeaks founder.
In what appears to be a calculated dig at the US, the Kremlin urged non-governmental organisations to think seriously about "nominating Assange as a Nobel Prize laureate".
"Public and non-governmental organisations should think of how to help him," the source from inside president Dmitry Medvedev's office told Russian news agencies. Speaking in Brussels, where Medvedev was attending a Russia-EU summit yesterday , the source went on: "Maybe, nominate him as a Nobel Prize laureate."

So Berkley wants to honor Assange's source, and now Russia wants to honor Assange with the same award Al Gore received?
It makes more sense by the day.
LOL
When Wikileaks publishes Russian cables, it will be a wonderful opportunity to hold Russian leaders accountable to the idea of free speech and transparent governance.
If they released Russian cables, Assange would be hanging by his testacles in a Siberian forest.
I don't want to hurt your feelings, but I don't think Assange has testacles.
Oh, so now we're going to have a typo war?
I will also wait in anticipation for his leaks on Russia and other countries.
Did you mean tentacles?
His leaks on China have been provocative, to say the least.
No, I meant testicles.
Sure, but do the Chinese citizens even know about it?
Thanks for clarifying. I knew he was evil, but I didn't realize he was the octoleak.
Would we know about it, if it hadn't been leaked?
Here's a provocative scenario for you, Erod. Put on your thinking cap. Say Assange was based in the U.S. and publishing Chinese dissident leaks of classified Chinese documents that were detrimental to the Chinese government. Would you be in favor of arresting him and handing him over for incarceration?
Stretch your brain.
He most certainly should be acknowledged

LOL, would it surprise you at this point?
I wonder what truly drives this man. What is his goal? It's not transparency, I know that. There were a lot of ways to accomplish that without doing it this way.
I suspect he's an anarchist at heart. We can be certain he's an exhibitionist, too.
But what deep down is his ultimate goal?
He might just be a punk trying to stir up trouble, and nothing more.
Has he promised such?
Erod said:Sure, but would the Chinese citizens ever know about it?
What I read in that scenario is the function of the CIA. Certainly we all know there is a constant intelligence game going on out there, but there is a national purpose - someone's national purpose - being served in their work.
But this is a man without a country, leaking information in the name of "journalism" with no other cause other than to claim a dedication toward "transparency". It doesn't wash with me.
This, to me, looks more like a "look at me" campaign, and by doing this so publicly, he's not accomplishing anything but straining relations in a world that is already strained.
I think this is going to damage communication between nations, not improve it. I think this is going to HURT transparency, not promote it. This is going to scare everyone back into their closets, and it will be very Cold War like between nations once again.
Or so, that is a possibility. I'm just thinking out loud as you asked.

Uhm assface said he was focusing on the US, and would ignore or not bother with other countries dirty laundry.

Wikileaks has posted plenty of dirty laundry from other countries, bro.
