Back-up links:Judge says he'll try to rule by early January on challenge to Utah's same-sex marriage ban
SALT LAKE CITY — A federal judge says he'll do his best to rule by early next year on a legal challenge to a same-sex marriage ban in Utah, after an attorney called for an end to the prohibition by arguing that the precedent has been set by the U.S. Supreme Court and discrimination has gone on long enough.
Lawyer Peggy Tomsic contended marriage is a fundamental right. "This is the time and this is the place for this court to make it clear that the 14th Amendment is alive and well, even in Utah," Tomsic said.
All states have equal rights. Homosexual marriage does not equate to equal rights.

I'm waiting for the "The Bible says Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve" comments..
They said that about interracial marriage too. For some reason that logic didn't stick. Do you expect it to this time?

Nonsense, not the same, not even close. Agent J liked to repeat his opinion endlessly hoping that with repitition it will become correct. I like to remind him of the truth every once in awhile and that not everyone is buying the crap. Don't worry, he'll repeat it all again endlessly and you can got back to feeling comforted.

individuals have rights not states
*sigh* this fight is over. You'll get rearguard comments on this for years after its legal in every state. Eventually as the years wear on no one will talk about it. This part of the 'culture war' is over and the last shots are being fired as we type. May take years yet before you get all 50 but its obviously going to happen. I just wish some people could give up the ghost and move on so we can talk about other things.
They did say that. They said everyone had equal right to marry someone of the same race.
Now they say everyone has equal right to marry someone of the opposite gender.
Perhaps you can elaborate further on your statement to clarify it for me. Why do you think same-sex marriage doesn't "equate to equal rights?" What do you mean by that?
well the fight isnt over, there are going to be many fights along the way to equality
but i do agree we can all see what the end result is going to be
equal rights is winning and its going to win but until it does ill be right here celebrating the smaller victories and potential victories because i never thought i would see it in my life time.
But yes it would be nice if the supporters of discrimination, bigots and or those agaisnt equal rights would just stop the nonsense already.
You know very well I was referring to equal rights for their citizens. If not, that's on you.
Again, nonsense. And no I have no need to rehash the arguments that have been made here many, many times before. Just do a search on Agent J and you'll find a multitude of threads with the info you're asking after.
You are using the states right bs to deny individuals their rights and support the tyranny of the majority.
Nope.

1.) For same sex marriage? I think the fight is very much over. The momentum isn't just on the side of SSM, it's overwhelming. Legally, politically, and culturally.
2.) Whether it happens in two years or in five isn't really an enormous distinction in my view.
3.) What matters is that it is irreversible. In that sense the fight is over.
4.) SSM opponents have clearly lost, and their efforts today are nothing more than delaying actions.

So you don't want to discuss your opinion. Ok. See you.
