Good news!

After attempts by leftist agitators to set her up, justice prevails.

"
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (AP) — A California judge has ruled in favor of a bakery owner who refused to make wedding cakes for a same-sex couple because it violated her Christian beliefs.

The state Department of Fair Housing and Employment had sued Tastries Bakery in Bakersfield, arguing owner Cathy Miller intentionally discriminated against the couple in violation of California’s Unruh Civil Rights Act.

Miller’s attorneys argued her right to free speech and free expression of religion trumped the argument that she violated the anti-discrimination law. Kern County Superior Court Judge Eric Bradshaw ruled Friday that Miller acted lawfully while upholding her beliefs about what the Bible teaches regarding marriage.

The decision was welcomed as a First Amendment victory by Miller and her pro-bono attorneys with the conservative Thomas More Society."

Where did you hear the baker was "set up"? It's not anywhere in the article you linked.

Within 45 minutes of Cathy Miller’s polite explanation to the two women, Tastries Bakery was inundated with hostile phone calls and emails. When the issue was publicized, it was discovered that the same two women had aggressively approached other wedding service providers in an attempt to find additional businesses that would refuse to serve them.

The behavior of the two women and the stories that have come out surrounding the events make it very easy to believe that this was a deliberate “set up” and that the women were seeking a lawsuit. Cathy Miller’s Christianity was obvious to the public. Any potential customer walking into Tastries could easily observe the religious symbols and scriptural references throughout the shop. I believe that she was deliberately targeted in this circumstance.

Even though it quickly became apparent that the women who approached Cathy were really looking for a lawsuit rather than a wedding cake, the state of California took up their cause.

Cathy Miller has been the subject of two separate lawsuits filed, not just by the two lesbian women who seemingly set her up, but by the California Department of Fair Employment Housing.

The legal action against Cathy’s Creations, Inc., by the Department of Fair Housing and Employment was filed under California’s Unruh Civil Rights Act, which provides protection from discrimination by business establishments on the basis of race, or ethnicity, or religion.

Ironically, both the act and the department are supposed to protect people’s religious rights, but that has not been the case for Cathy Miller.

Like most artists, Cathy believes that creating something custom, such as a wedding cake, sends the distinct message that you’re celebrating that event and its participants – and giving it credibility – by gracing it with your uniquely designed work of art."

Unfortunately, the same judge sentenced the same Baker to "Stoning" for wearing wool and linen fabrics in one garment, the blending of different species of animals.
Wow! So "clever". /s

This baker should receive none of the benefits that come with operating a business. Let her do church bake sales.

California tax payers should be furious. It is not the job of the state to waste tax dollars in activist lawsuits.

The first case I believe was the baker in Gresham Oregon. They were not found guilty of illegal bias. The reason they were successfully sued was because they turned around and flamed the gay couple on social media.

Religious freedom is part of the first amendment and laws cannot dismiss a persons constitutional rights. A government entity should know this, and the government employees doing this waste (see waste fraud and abuse) should be fired.

I'm not sure I believe the Catholic activists, but if true, everyone in this story sounds miserable to me. The couple for seeking litigation and the baker for her bigoted hatred. On the other hand, it is astounding to me that after millennia of oppressing all of humanity, religious people want to claim they are the victims of persecution.

Trumpist stands with bigotry, news at forever.
Bigotry by individuals is protected by the constitution. Just not the state. Why was state Department of Fair Housing and Employment bigoted against religious beliefs? If anyone has a civil case, it's the baker against the state.

I didn't know wedding cakes could be same sex.

Never was.

Can someone go to a Jewish bakery and force them to make a swastika cake?
For **** sake. I can't believe people are still using that sloppy analogy five years after Masterpiece Cakeshop. The couple in this story did not ask for a swastika cake. They asked for a wedding cake -- a thing that bakery produces every day. They were not denied service for asking for something unusual or extraordinary or offensive. They were denied service for being gay. In a truly civilized and equal society that wouldn't pass, but the MAGA people have made great strides in stripping Americans of their rights.

What evidence do you have that the California Department of Fair Housing and Employment did not issue an impartial ruling based on California law?

There is a LOT of ignorance about the Masterpiece Cakeshop ruling.... A LOT.. Especially on the right...

Understandable verdict. First Amendment protections are Federal and generally trump state laws.

I don't care. I am not gay and would not eat a cake from someone who did not want to make it for me.

But the ruling, the refusal to make the cake, drip of hate.

Not arguing that, just the Constitutionality. If this were an inter-racial couple, they would have a winning case, based on Federal Law coming from the post ACW amendments (14th IIRC but could be wrong).

Remember, these are agenda suits, seeking to enforce or push legislation or a court verdict. Its not about the plaintiff or the defendant.

Why would color trump sexual identity?

Could someone not claim their religion forbids blacks marrying whites?

Can't a religion claim about anything? And we like morons are supposed to respect it?
