Unfortunately it's not generally fun or pleasant to do the Right thing in today's society. It's horrible what tends to happen to these people, but is it really all that surprising considering the environment/society we find in America today?

Yep. Trust me, I see it every single day in the office I work in. I've lost count of the number of people who have lost their jobs here because they were unwilling to "play the game" the way the company wants to.
Crap like this pisses me off. I see "the game" being played every single day at work, too. Funny, just last night, I saw it going down...one guy on the phone with the district manager, tooting his own horn about HE is so great, HIS effort keeps the place afloat, etc etc etc...so I called him out on it, right there, in the middle of the phone call.
People wanna play the game around me, they better hope they are better at it than me. Because I hate that ****, and I'll play the game just to see those folks ousted.
Thats a shame...when people are rewarded for doing the WRONG THING....and you have the teaparty cheerleading for everything they do....eh...thats why im an independent now...I dont like this new world very much.....my mother rammed in my head...honesty is the best policy...

Generally speaking, in the workplace, honesty is the absolute WORST policy. You can't manage up...so when the folks above you screw up, you can't let them know about it...unless you play the game to do so. Passive aggressive like....never THEIR screw up...just THE screw up.....that sorta thing. Same with subbordinates, though. Can't be honest with them. Can't tell the person who takes 30 minutes to make a couple of copies on the copier that they suck, and that the world would be a better place if they just quit and got a job at the DMV. Nor can you tell the office tramp to put some clothes, no one wants to see her whale tail sticking out of her **** me skirt. Nope. As a general rule, honesty gets you fired. If people wanted honesty in their lives, they'd hire their wives to work for them. And they don't. For exactly that reason.
There lies the problem kevin...its YOU the good guy gets ousted now...it USED TO BE...the bad guy got ousted and YOU the good guy got his job..
I dont like this new way...and i feel very fortunate to be out of the job market....I would not survive today
Id like to add here...its NOT the young people that made it this way...they werent even born yet...its my generation that created this work environment of greed at all costs and created all the new world swindles and cheats and steals...

Personally, I blame higher education. It's higher ed that's made this world the way it is. You see, once upon a time, you made your way to the top of a company through hard work and years of toiling at lower end jobs. And when you GOT to that high end desk job, you got it because you knew everything there was to know about said company...having done every job there is to do there. No longer. Now, you got people waltzing in, who don't even know the names of 5% of the people they are supposed to be leading, have never worked a day of their life at said company, and based on some books read, and papers written in college...they can run the place. No dice. There is not a single college class in the world that can prepare you to run a company...ANY company, better than simply working in said company for a few years. I would know...I've taken most of those college classes. This creates an large element of incompetence and a general lack of understanding on the side of the administrative staff....which generates distrust and discord between them and the folks they are administrating/leading. Simply put, how the hell can you presume to tell me, person doing job A, that I need to do this, this, and that...and that my timeline to do so is X...without ever having done this, this, and that...to actually know how long it really takes to do so? Take that same idea, and expand it across the board over every task within any given company, and you'll get an idea of what I'm talking about. This discord spreads into every facet, which creates the atmosphere of screw your cubicle neighbor, in order to get that higher salary. because, when talent and ability are no longer the key factors of getting job (thanks to higher education), it becomes more about WHO you know...and how good of friends you are with those people...and how much BETTER of a friend you are to them, than your competition.
Greed has nothing to do with it, really. Greed is just a motivator.
