What made Johnny Cash so great was the fact he was more than just a country singer. He loved folk, rock, the blues, soul and gospel music. Unlike most of his very conservative contemporaries who judged Johnny Showed compassion towards those who where down and out while being a rebel himself. As I have said many times I am a hard rocker and love Johnny Cash. I met him at the Billy Graham crusade and it was one of the highlights of my life. He was larger than life and a human who was not perfect like the rest of us.

I Walk the Line is one of my favorite movies. I have a multi-CD pack of all or most of his songs. I love him. I've never understood how a person can like only one type of music. For me, it's almost everything...some country, rock, soft rock, classical, some opera, bee bop, hillbilly, blue grass, easy listenin', Roaring Twenties songs, some jazz....I love something in almost every type. Cash is King!

yeah, i really like Johnny Cash. his collaborations with Bob Dylan were also pretty awesome.

Yes, Johnny Cash was one of the good ones, heads and shoulders above most of the modern performers.

Here's the alternative lyrics to "I walk the Line":

I keep a close watch on this heart of mine,
I keep my pants up with a piece of twine,
I keep myself quite ready all the time,
Just say you're mine,
And pull the twine.

My dad used to love Johnny Cash's music, but I thought it was kind of creepy -- burning ring of fire ???

Ever been so much in love that it's like being in the center of a ring of fire?

Johnny Cash transcended political party affiliation. He had the ability to combine reality and art. He could speak to ever level of society within a single song. Sometimes within a single line of a song.

You didn't have to have been to prison to feel the truth behind the lyrics of Folsom Prison Blues.

No. What made Johnny Cash great was his "boom-chicka-boom. And, I suppose, his base lines. As any guitar player can tell you. Gotta love it.

The thing of it is Jack. I love progressive rock, Metal and The Blues. I have long ago stopped listening to classic country on a regular basis even though I still love it. Johnny was bigger than country music.

Like Waylon after him. Johnny had that bass line that was unmistakable.

Anyone who is a fan of Cash knows his songs were clean! No risque' lyrics with Cash. (Now, his behavior was quite different!)

You must be a young feller. You never been in love with a person that is nothin' but trouble?

That song was written by June Carter about her falling in love with Johnny Cash, who was married and did drugs. She came from a religious family, so a relationship with someone like him was not so good. But she couldn't do anything about it. They were deeply in love. She had fallen into....get ready for it.....a burning ring of fire.

Love is a burnin' thing,
And it makes a fiery ring
Bound by wild desire
I fell into a ring of fire.
