What would have happened with the economy if we had taken a meat-axe to all portions of the economy equally in Obama's 1st budget? Imagine the Repub screamers on defense. Imagine every lobbying group. Besides, zero economists agreed with that approach. What choice did Obama have on the TAD?
If Repubs led by Norquist and the TEAtards had not sabotaged their own Sen. Coburn's plan in July of 2011, we'd be 2 years from a balanced budget. Coburn put it out after reelection when he was safe and will be retiring from this insanity in 2016. It was an 8 for 1 swap and remember the Repub candidates at their debate? They rejected a 10 for 1 swap--complete lunacy.
and what mess has been cleaned up?
Debt still increasing, no passed budget in more than four years beyond a CR.
So if it was wrong in the past to overspend, then it ok to continue doing it?
Why has the Senate failed to produce a budget beyond a CR for over four years?
Sen. Coburn has the only comprehensive program I've seen and he's not exactly a moderate Republican.Oh there are lot of choices.
Please don't make me say that you can't take yes for an answer. I take **** every day for my CC stance here in Illinois. It is clear you think the dems have the answers and you only want to blame one side of the equation.
Oh there are lot of choices.
It is clear you think the dems have the answers and you only want to blame one side of the equation.
Why has the Senate failed to produce a budget beyond a CR for over four years?
The Senate passed a Budget in March and it was promptly buried in the House. Boner refused conference.
Does that answer your question? Reid is not into infantile, futile behavior like Boner. He knew it was a waste of time all along.
did you not see their budget this year?
Correct me if I am wrong, the Senate had a budget plan, the House had a budget plan, neither could reconcile, so back to the old CR.
That has congress has operated for many years.
The Senate passed a Budget in March and it was promptly buried in the House. Boner refused conference.
Does that answer your question? Reid is not into infantile, futile behavior like Boner. He knew it was a waste of time all along.
Haven't we had this discussion before where you said the majority of Americans don't want this law and then I said the majority rejected the GOP's attempt to repeal the law and voted for Obama instead?
The Senate passed a budget. The House passed their budget. There was ZERO reconciliation because the House refused 18 times to go to conference. I want this to end as much as you do I hope, but not with the proverbial gun to my head.
So what is your point of yea the Senate passed a bill.
Why did the House refuse conciliation conference 18 times. This is why we don't have a budget and it is on Paul Ryan for refusing to allow it.It doesn't matter if the House passes a budget if the Senate fails to confirm the budget. It doesn't mean a thing if the Senate passes a budget if the House doesn't concern with it.
Again, why did the House not go to conference 18 times to work out the budget? So yes I know the Senate passed a budget. But did the Senate get the House to approve it?
You were the one who said the Senate did not pass a budget in 5 years. So don't go selling that the Senate passed a budget as its a big deal.
Do you understand how a budget is developed by the Feds? It doesn't matter if the House passes a budget if the Senate fails to confirm the budget. It doesn't mean a thing if the Senate passes a budget if the House doesn't concern with it. It doesn't matter if the house and senate pass a budget if the President doesn't sign it or if vetoed and Congress can't overide the veto.
So yes I know the Senate passed a budget. But did the Senate get the House to approve it? Did the budget go to the President,
the answer is NO on both. Same as the House passed a budget which the Senate rejected. President never so the budget.
In general, the President submits a budget to the House. The house modifies or accepts it. Sends it to the Senate, The Senate modifies or accepts. it may get sent back to the House
If the House and the Senate budget plans are the same and approved by both, it goes to the President for signature.
beyond a CR that has not happened in years.
So don't go selling that the Senate passed a budget as its a big deal. What they passed never made it to the Presidents desk.
You think the election was 100% about Obamacare?
Now the House wants to go to conference? When they already shut down the govt.? Where was Boner when the Senate passed its budget in March? No where to be found because he refused conference. There is nothing to talk about concerning the AHC act anyway. There is a method to repeal laws and the CR is not it.
Where would we be if we let 18% of the nation decide which laws to like? Does that sound fair to you?
So do suggest they just stand on opposites sides of a room and do shikiri until something magical happens? I don't know where Boehner was, it doesn't matter, right now is all we have. There is plenty to talk about. This is the way they chose, so that's how it goes. Where are you getting this figure?
The 18% represents the people in the districts the T's in the House come from. Obama has promised to negotiate on the budget as soon as the govt. is open and the debt ceiling is raised. That is what will happen and no talks will take place until then.
did you not see their budget this year?
There has been no Senate budget...please link to it.
Even mike2810 gave it up in post 211. I suppose the House didn't ignore 18 Senate calls for a joint conference either.
My bad...the Senate this summer passed it's first budget in 5 years...whoopee ****ing doo
So even when a Democrat is decent about it, a conservative still comes back with sarcasm.
You found the right forum.
And I didn't hear you address the 18 times the Repubs said Heck NO to a joint conference.
Can you explain why the House wants a conference now, the real reason?
Washington Democrats have slammed the door on reopening the government.
The president isn't telling the whole story when it comes to the government shutdown. The fact is that Washington Democrats have slammed the door on reopening the government by refusing to engage in bipartisan talks. And, as stories across the country highlight the devastating impact of Obamacare on families and small businesses, they continue to reject our calls for fairness for all Americans.
This is part of a larger pattern: the president's scorched-Earth policy of refusing to negotiate in bipartisan way on his health care law, current government funding, or the debt limit.
OBAMA TO REPUBLICANS: Reopen the government
As of this morning, Senate Democrats, acting in concert with President Obama, have rejected four different proposals from the House of Representatives to keep the government running and fund basic services.
OUR VIEW: The Shutdown Party
REP. CATHY MCMORRIS RODGERS: It's up to the Senate
On Friday, September 20, 2013, the House of Representatives passed legislation to keep the government running – funding Medicare, Social Security, veterans benefits, and more – while removing funding for the president's health care law, which is driving up costs and hurting our economy.
The Democratic-controlled Senate rejected this measure.
On Saturday, September 28, 2013, the House passed another measure to keep the government running, delay the president's health care law for one year, and permanently repeal Obamacare's tax on pacemakers and children's hearing aids.
Senate Democrats rejected the measure on a party-line vote.
(The House also passed the Pay Our Military Act, which ensures our troops are paid during a government shutdown. Thankfully, that measure was adopted by the Senate and signed by President Obama.)
On Monday, September 30, 2013, the House passed yet another measure to keep the government running and ensure fairness for all Americans under the president's health care law. President Obama delayed the law's mandates on big businesses and insurance companies; this bill would delay the law for everyone.
The Senate rejected this measure too.
John Boehner: Obama owns this shutdown now
