Joe Biden Is Who We Said He Was

It looks like he's getting the biggest, most comprehensive infrastructure bill passed in my lifetime, including provisions for passenger rail. I'm a huge advocate of that policy, and it's completely unexpected. Bravo Biden!
How exactly is it "unexpected" that a president whose party controls all three branches of the government was able to get a legislative win on this?

Legislative win? How about liberal pork laden, voting buying legislation with very little infrastructure included? What the supporters of the left don't seem to understand is the taxes they pay or their purpose totally ignoring infrastructure responsibilities that come from state and local taxes and then federal excise tax. What Biden and liberalism has proven is that they can indoctrinate people with feel good rhetoric yet never deliver the promised results. Biden is exactly who the OP describes and the left still wants to ignore

Endless right wing attacks. What would anyone expect. Trump was continuously criticized. He was their Idol. He is their Idol.

Baseless personal attacks have always been a favorite campaign tactic for Republicans. They are very good at it.

It wouldn't matter what side of an issue Biden takes the attacks are ready.

Frankly I think he is doing a great job. Moving forward on all fronts. Legislation, covid and Afghanistan. He is not letting all the critism and Baseless attacks from the right distract him from his objective.

?? What "all three branches" is that? The Judiciary is firmly in the hands of the Republicans?

First of all, none of this was even on the agenda back before the election. There were no lofty promises to push for a bill this size, or this comprehensive. More than reason enough to consider this "unexpected". Secondly, and this should be obvious to anyone who follows politics, Democrats don't vote in jackbooted goose-steps like the Republicans do. Just two days before the vote, there were 9 Democrats who were opposed. All their votes were needed, and winning them over was "unexpected".

Nota, nobody that matters cares about facts any more. Everything is about perceptions and the messaging necessary to manipulate that perception. Yeah, the press has been hard on the Biden administration this past week but that will end in short order and they'll get back to Covid and Trump's corruption because they have a duty to preserve democracy and, as we all know, you can't have a democracy without Democrats.

Interesting. You make it sound like democracy is a bad thing. Maybe you would prefer an authoritarian regime?

Could you elaborate on what exactly were your "low expectations"?
I've always had low expectations - of every president - and with plenty of good reasons.

You never know if they'll follow through with their campaign promises - in fact, you don't even know if they believe their campaign promises. Then no matter what they believe, or what they try to do, there's no guarantee they'll get the support from congress. Often as not, depending on the issue, they don't have that support. In some cases, presidents have been well-intentioned, but naive about what could or couldn't be done. Factors change, economies collapse, pandemics, wars, etc., etc. All these things, and others, change priorities.

I've lived long enough to never have high expectations of any politician. I had none for Biden, but so far he's been a delightful surprise. And that's above and beyond merely comparing him with Trump, who was catastrophically bad.

Interesting. You make it sound like democracy is a bad thing. Maybe you would prefer an authoritarian regime?
I like the idea of a representative republic. I'm not all that keen on majority rule.

I meant both houses and the presidency, my mistake. Clearly you and I think differently, I find nothing surprising about politicians wanting to spend money. Furthermore, prior to the election are saying Joe Biden didn't make promises about the government providing free stuff for people? Personally I have not followed how everyone in each party has typically voted over the years but I do know that there's people on the right who say the same thing about Democrats always voting in lock step with each other. Lastly, who were the nine Democrats that were opposed other than Manchin and Sinema? Also in what way were they opposed. Neither Manchin or Sinema were strictly opposed but were just pushing a more bipartisan bill.

Clearly you and I think differently,
OK

You think jobs and infrastructure bills are "providing free stuff for people" ?? Then clearly you and I really do think differently. Very differently!
Personally I have not followed how everyone in each party has typically voted over the years
But I do. How old are you? Remember Barack Obama? He was a very popular recent president, just before Trump. He was so popular that, back in '08, the Democrats rode his coattails to majorities in both Houses. His Party owed him - big time!

He ran on, among other things, producing a fundamental healthcare reform bill that would correct many of the most outrageous abuses of the insurance industry. He tried getting traction from his own party for more than a year, often saying publicly that he wanted a "Single Payer" plan, not unlike Canada's. But he just couldn't get the votes from the Dems. So he offered a compromise. Let's keep the insurance companies in the system, but we'll give Americans a "Government Option". AGAIN the Democrats wouldn't give him the votes! Finally, in order to get something accomplished before the midterms, he settled for the Republican plan - the Dole Plan - the Romney Plan - the plan that eventually became what was known as Obama Care. They wouldn't even march in step for the popular president who gave their party the majority of both Houses.
So much for the bullshit that the Democrats vote in lockstep with each other.
but I do know that there's people on the right who say the same thing about Democrats always voting in lock step with each other.
No surprise. No matter what people on the right are doing, they accuse the Democrats of doing the same thing. It's their M.O. And they're more than willing to twist themselves into pretzels concocting false equivalencies to illustrate their bogus point. I find myself popping those bubbles at least every other day on line somewhere.
Lastly, who were the nine Democrats that were opposed other than Manchin and Sinema? Also in what way were they opposed. Neither Manchin or Sinema were strictly opposed but were just pushing a more bipartisan bill.

you guys can't stand him because unlike Trump he is honest, decent and NOT a criminal, LOL!
He is mentally challenged . I feel, embarrassed for you…everyone in the world knows you have a useless president…except you. It’s laughable.

they do???? You should have been embarrassed from 2016-2020 when the world held its breath!!! LOL!

It’s so obvious that Biden is not fit for the job…he couldn’t run a ****ing bath.

Mea culpa. I just left a link to the first headline that Google gave me for the Democrat opposition to the bill without even checking the date of the story. This is one's more pertinent.

Dateline 8/24

"The Rules Committee met three times over the past two days and, after a series of negotiations, Pelosi and her team overcame steadfast objections from a bloc of moderates who first wanted a vote on the Senate-passed bipartisan infrastructure package before taking up the budget deal that will pave the way for Democrats to tackle the rest of Biden's agenda. Ten holdouts agreed to adopt the budget measure after receiving a firmer commitment on an infrastructure vote."

Secondly, and this should be obvious to anyone who follows politics, Democrats don't vote in jackbooted goose-steps like the Republicans do.
Did the Republicans vote in lockstep with each other on this infrastructure bill?

You can't get the right answers in life if you don't even ask the right questions. There's no Republican in the White House, but if there were, they'd vote in lock step with his wishes. The question you should be asking is: "How often did Republicans vote against Trump when he was in office?"

The answer to that is the beginning of wisdom.

No President has ever been my idol, policies are what I support, you support and buy rhetoric, the results speak for themselves which is why you never post any. Biden doin a great job examples? The border? Afghanistan, the economy? What is it about liberalism that creates your kind of loyalty to an ideology that never generates the promised results? Thinking with the heart is a liberal fallacy

The border?
A mess for more than 30 years. When we finally had our most recent bipartisan agreement on it, Trump vetoed the legislation in favor of promoting his wall.
Afghanistan,
Some unfortunate events, but overall a great job. He'll finally gets us out, albeit 15 years later than it should have been. He's to be commended for it.
the economy?
Doing great! What's your problem with it?
What is it about liberalism that creates your kind of loyalty to an ideology that never generates the promised results?
?? Never generates the promised results?!? It was just during the last Democratic president's term that we recovered from the previous Republican president's global economic meltdown, giving us the longest string of consecutive months of economic growth in the nation's history. Stock markets tripled into record territory. We FINALLY got Usama bin Laden - promise kept! And I hope you're old enough to remember that under Obama, we got the first fundamental healthcare reform in my lifetime. He generated promised results in spades with that one.
Thinking with the heart is a liberal fallacy
Selective retrograde amnesia is a conservative psychopathology.

Walls keep people out and results from walls are seen all over the world, Pelosi was more interested in getting incompetence into the WH and succeeded

The withdrawal was negotiated by Trump who made that deal in 2020 during his final year in office after overcoming 2 impeachment events. Biden Botched the evacuation and left billions of military assets to the Taliban. That your definition of a good job? Such loyalty!!
Doing great! What's your problem with it?
Oh, I don't know, high inflation, 6 million employees short what pre pandemic levels apparently nothing impacting you thus doesn't exist

Global economic meltdown? Do you have any idea what Congress does? Who was in charge of the legislation and the purse strings under Bush? Economic growth from Obama? Post it in dollars compared to Trump or even Bush?
Selective retrograde amnesia is a conservative psychopathology.

Sounds like a liberal problem as I don't see any data supporting your claims, why is that?

First off, politics has or nothing to do with wisdom. Second, the post I responded to was a general comment from you implying (from my perspective) that Democrats don't generally vote along party lines but that Republicans do. Later you provided the example of the ACA, but nowhere did you specify "when X party holds the White House." Third, the other example you provided about 9 Democrats in the House (I believe) that were/are on the fence, did or are any going to actually vote no? Finally are you claiming that there's never a case in which Republican Representatives don't do the same thing?

Walls keep people out and results from walls are seen all over the world, Pelosi was more interested in getting incompetence into the WH and succeeded
Ho-hum. You're just boring me to death. Was that your plan? The wall can't keep anyone out, and never could. It's overcome by nothing more than tunneling and ladders - real high tech stuff, eh?
The withdrawal was negotiated by Trump who made that deal in 2020 during his final year in office after overcoming 2 impeachment events.
Lie - and not even a good one. His second impeachment was in 2021. The deal he negotiated gave away the farm, and reduced our forces to 2,500 - about the size of the Baltimore police force. Your defense of Trump's multiple follies is pathetic.
Biden Botched the evacuation and left billions of military assets to the Taliban.
The assets weren't left to the Taliban - they were left to the ASF. Biden can't be blamed for their failure. That was 20 years in the making, including the last four under your messiah, Trump.
That your definition of a good job? Such loyalty!!
Loyalty not required. Facts are facts. Biden is literally days away from pulling this country out of a twenty year long quagmire - a death trap for our armed forces, and a black hole for US taxpayer dollar$. Any REAL "conservative" would be delighted - but you seem to object. I guess you're no conservative. I'll dub you a CINO - Conservative In Name Only! That title seems to fit.
Oh, I don't know, high inflation,
Inflation isn't high at all. It's only slightly above what it was, and it was all predicted more than a year ago to be the result of the pandemic. Did you sleep through all of that, Van Winkle? Or you only hear what fits your agenda? Remember the pandemic? Newsflash: We're still in it.
6 million employees short what pre pandemic levels apparently nothing impacting you thus doesn't exist
How pitifully typical ! Republican's leave the country in ruins, and then bitch about Democrats not cleaning up their mess fast enough. Does it ever stop??
Global economic meltdown? Do you have any idea what Congress does? Who was in charge of the legislation and the purse strings under Bush?
Let me know as soon as you have a real response to "giving us the longest string of consecutive months of economic growth in the nation's history." Until then, ya got nothing!
Economic growth from Obama? Post it in dollars compared to Trump or even Bush?
I'm embarrassed for you. What a steaming heap of deflection. No, you ask yourself what economy Bush was heir to. Then ask yourself what economy Trump inherited. If you have an ounce of intellectual honesty - which I'm sure we all doubt - then you'd admit that the last two Democrat presidents left the economy in great shape, the last to Republicans left it in the gutter, and the current Democrat is - yet again - climbing the country out of another Republican abyss. If you can't admit to that, then you're way beyond a feeble propagandist - you're nothing but a tool.
Sounds like a liberal problem as I don't see any data supporting your claims, why is that?

Consider being a writer of fiction, none of this has anything to do with the thread topic and all are distorted lies without backed up data. Economic growth can be one dollar, 100 dollars, 500 billion dollars with Obama or 900 billion dollars by Trump during his first three years in office all under two impeachment efforts

You are embarrassed for me? I am waiting for you to explain to me why this former JFK Democrat would ever vote for a Democrat today?
