Joe Biden believes housing is a right.

What percentage of renters create this problem?
I dont have that info (altho I have been a landlord)

OTOH, it's just like any other business...crimes may not be common but they occur and any business owner must be prepared for it. And when it occurs, it can be financially devastating.

Even with personal interviews, background checks, etc I've still gotten stuck with an alcoholic, a drug addict (prescribed drugs) a domestic abuser, and (I verify employment for every tenant) one that quit her job the week she moved in. I've never had to do any evictions tho fortunately.

Depends on how big the room is. Each person must have adequate space. Do you disagree?

Yep, let's say its a standard room, what is that, 11 x 8 ? I don't know off hand.....

I am of the mind that something further needs to be done.

Why do you ask?

Because there has to be a line in the sand where it stops, common sense dictates that....

Right now.....can more be done, absolutely.....I don't think anyone is arguing that......but where do you draw that line, if as some posters are saying, each "space" has to be I guess "ok" by each user?

That could fit 2 people at most.

And you just illustrated why homelessness and poverty will ALWAYS be an issue,

Instead of taking it, and finding a way to make it work, and finding a way to improve the situation, you would have them pass on that, til something comes their way that fits better......

The other problem is.....whose duty is it to provide that "something further needs to be done" Where is that line between government is needed, and self reliance is required?

There is a solution. It's called Housing First.

You should look into it

Long term homelessness can be eliminated

If they need it.....they get it

Since governments derive significant revenue from residential property taxes, they have a vested interest in having inflated home values. The idea that housing could be brought down to the cost of a new car is interesting - how, exactly, would you propose that be accomplished?
"Significant revenue" that benefits all and/or others in the community/county.

Worthwhile cause, but what happens, when they have a property, and a person to match it to, and that person refuses?

It happens less than you think in the housing first program. They almost always take a private apartment over the street

What if I dont want to build more low income housing? Should I be forced? Should the govt take my earnings and build it?
That's why communities and govts provide incentives, mostly in the form of tax relief.

that is up to me

Yea, I kinda do..... but it does happen, in reference to people turning down shelter....what then?
Then they are free to live as they please.

I want a better solution....not a perfect one.

What do you REALLY want ?

Oh **** me.....hell just froze over.

Lursa actually wrote something I agreed with.
If you didnt automatically assign 'cliched' characteristics and stupid labels like 'socialist and communist' to positions like Democrat, liberal, left, you'd probably be open to learning more.

Note: my comments dont all necessarily apply to you specifically.

$50K I told you....... I want government to get the hell out of most everything but the basic needs....

This does not support your contention.

This is a link to a temporary shelter set up in a 3rd world country.
They are all over the Seattle area, some are sanctioned, getting trash pickup, permits to stay 90 days in a location, etc.

I was gonna say you got me confused with someone....I don't label people as socialist or communist, I lable them as morons, ****ing morons, or goddamn idiots...

Got it, 4 walls, and all of that...is that good?

See how you keep getting more specific etc.....this why you can't just say....derrrr shelter is a right.
Must be nice. I dont even have air conditioning.

This is fine but has nothing to do with him supporting his contention as I had asked.
