JB Pritzker As 2028 Dem Nominee Just Makes Sense

Well then their message is flying over your head.
Or maybe it's a radical message.

I mean, it often is. Greed may be evil... but that doesn't necessarily make the person evil.
Exactly. That's not the message, though.

It is absolutely not irrelevant. You seem to be claiming that taxing the wealthy at a higher rate is bigoted. So are you a flat tax proponent or not?
No, I'm saying hatred for the rich, to the point of calling them evil, is bigoted.

I've already stated my opinion on expanding safety nets. I surely don't think this should be done on the backs of those who need them.

Tax policy is irrelevant to the "eat the rich" message from the far-left.

How does "JB Pritzker As 2028 Nominee Just Makes Sense" infer preaching "hate the rich?"
Nominating a billionaire to preach "hate the rich" wouldn't work.

That was my reply. Are you going to claim "just makes sense" doesn't imply "would work?"

Right now, there is a divide between progressives/leftists and liberals/centrists. Pritzker is someone who is well-liked on both sides. He is progressive and politically savvy. He also has that dog in him to take on any MAGA-crazed GOP candidate.

I just haven't seen any other candidate that checks the boxes the way Pritzker does.

Too much baggage.

- His property tax fraud incident alone will damage his ass big time.

- He's a spend and tax type, while doing nothing for Illinois's constantly-ballooning pension problem.

- His use of emergency powers during Covid was heavily criticized.

- He supported the dumpster fire "criminal reform" bill SAFE-T Act, which among other things eliminated cash bail & is despised by many in the state's LEO community.

- He's a supporter of sanctuary laws for illegals.

- He vetoed legislation to lift the state's nuke power plant moratorium

- Approved ridiculous increases in the state's gas tax (which will also fry his ass nationally)

He's political poison.

I noticed in that diatribe not a single point of criticism on policy. I bet you had a PRITZKER SUCKS! sign in your yard a few years ago. 😄
You can always find out pretty quick in small Illinois towns who the miserable people are by looking at their yard signs

Yup. And FDR was a multi-millionaire progressive.
When FDR died in 1945 his wealth was estimated at $79M. In today’s dollars that would be roughly $1.4B, and he would absolutely be considered very (Sanders/AOC level) progressive.

Probably wouldn’t stand much chance of being elected.

He was absolutely the right man for his time though.

No doubt Pritzker has baggage, but no more (or anywhere near as disqualifying) than Traitor Trump, who was elected twice.

There's some truth in what you say, but in terms of Dems I think they would rally around Pritzker's combative no-holds-barred nature towards Trump. I believe Dems are looking for a fighter. A serious fighter.

How this may play with Indies though, I don't know.

He won't be running against Trump.

After the midterms, Trump is pretty much a lame duck.

Except- again- he won't be running against Trump.

How would Pritzker play against JD Vance, that's the important question.

Road Virus made a good point: the SAFE-T Act, particularly the aspects of it that eliminated cash bail, has made our streets more dangerous.

Republicans are already pretty good at making Crime in Chicago a byword for criticizing Democrats.

You missed the point.

If Traitor Trump could get elected, especially the 2nd time, there’s no reason to assume Vance would lose to Pritzker, or any progressive Dem.

Debatable.
Republicans are already pretty good at making Crime in Chicago a byword for criticizing Democrats.
MAGAt Republicans make every crime statistic in blue cities/states out to be armageddon, and lie their asses off about how “safe” red cities/states are.

Americans are so divided in the post-truth/sanity Traitor Trump era that most don’t believe anything at all coming from the other side.

I don’t think the answer is to try to bridge the divide. The cultural left of the Democratic Party is only around 10% of its base (and mostly upper middle class white), and their politics are toxic to the majority of voters. Just like the party had to do in the late 80s, they will have to tell these people that they are simply wrong.

As to Pritzker, we need newer faces for the party.

That's debatable.

I think you have that exactly reversed. Trump won because, despite being a repulsive human being, many Americans agreed with what he was selling. A more appealling candidate, namely Vance, would have an easier time selling a less harsh version.

Paying more in taxes and having a more intrusive government are not ideas that sell easily.

Debatable.

Not at all. I could see where Vance could drag out an advertisement about how some felon who got released under SAFE-T when he should have been in jail went on to commit some horrific crime. Think Willie Horton, Redux.

MAGAt Republicans make every crime statistic in blue cities/states out to be armageddon, and lie their asses off about how “safe” red cities/states are.

Very True. . However, Chicago has led the country in homicides for the last 13 years.

"Pritzker: He'll do for America what he's done for Chicago!"

Americans are so divided in the post-truth/sanity Traitor Trump era that most don’t believe anything at all coming from the other side.
Very true.

That's not going to change and nominating Pritzker isn't going the help that.

If Democrats want to win, they need to nominate a moderate, purple or red state governor, not a deep blue governor with a shoddy record.

I don't really have any strong opinion about him other than the fact that he's Governor of Illinois, and Illinois isn't exactly doing well. That may not be Pritzker's fault, I don't know. But having a good excuse for why one's state is doing badly is never going to be as compelling as governing a state that's doing well.

Seriously, who the hell in their right mind would want the country to be modeled after Illinois?

Beshear, 2nd highest approval rating among all governors (68% as of 4/25) and two time governor of a deep red state is a moderate who may appeal to the broader electorate.

Sure, but he doesn't appeal to anyone who is left wing. He's a white, gun-owning, god-fearing hillbilly from Kentucky. Dems from CA, IL, or NY are not going to vote for someone like him.

Seriously, who the hell in their right mind would want the country to be modeled after Illinois?

I'd be the first to acknowledge that Illinois politicians have had a history of corruption and incompetence. Luckily, we're turning the tide, here.

JB Pritzker would be an excellent choice to represent the Democrats.
He is greedy, corrupt, an idiot and a major asshole.

White [x]
Male [x]
Billionaire [x]

I'm sure your fellow progressives will luv him.

FDR & Bernie:

White [x]
Male [x]
Wealthy [x]

Sure, why wouldn't they?

Can we not continue selling out America to billionaires?

Wealthy and billionaire are not the same thing. Mamdani is on record stating that billionaires should not even exist.

He sounds even worse than Newsom.
