A Japanese Court has formally dissolved the Unification Church, stripping it of recognition as a religion and removing all tax breaks and has ordered it to liquidate and surrender its assets.

People may still practice the religion in Japan, but it will pretty much have to operate out of people's houses or tents going forward.

That's an 'interesting' decision. Takes judicial activism to new heights in a democracy.

Not judicial activism. The law in Japan provides that the government may suspend for profit activities of any religion for misbehavior. It is very rare, but does happen from time to time.

And the Moonies are ****ing corrupt as hell, so I see no issue here.

And they are still free to practice their reliefs, just not on a for profit basis. They can still hold services in their own homes or other locations at their members expense.

Within the context of the Japanese Constitution and Japanese law, the court acted properly and within its designated jurisdiction.

Closing fraudulent cults is not my idea of "judicial activism". I hope Japan does the same to scientology.

People tend to think of Japan as a Western democracy and assume it is judicially similar to America. It isn't, not by a long shot.

Not too surprised, the Moonies, and especially the Japanese branch, ar corrupt as hell.

No Japan is not ruled by lawyers like the USA or UK. Lucky Japanese.
