Kay Bailey Hutchison said today that she will not seek another term in the U.S. Senate.
"I have known since 2006 that I wouldn't seek another term," the senator said in a telephone interview. "I wanted to announce it on my own terms and in my own way

But there is more behind the scenes. Kay Bailey Hutchinson is the first Tea Party scalp to be taken in the 2012 election cycle, as ideologues in the party push harder for "purity". Among Republicans, her numbers are way down, as evidenced by her abortive bid to unseat Rick Perry in the Texas gubernatorial primary. And there is a huge wave of party purists standing in line to be the next Senator from Texas.

The bad news is that Hutchinson lost to a man who can only be described as a Socialist, rather than a Conservative. Perry raised taxes on cigarettes, attempted to force schoolgirls in Texas to receive vaccinations that had not been tested yet on humans, gave Mexican trucks with bald tires and bad brakes unfettered access to Texas highways without having the inspections that US trucks are required to undergo, gave the order to execute an innocent man, and then attempted to cover up his "crime" by firing every member of the forensics board, and replacing them with his political cronies, abusing his office by using taxpayer money for personal pleasure, including keeping expensive wines stocked from his personal wine list, knowingly allowed child abuse to occur at a Texas juvenile facility, firing the director only when a report on the abuse was made public, more than half a year after he became aware of the problem, and used state employees to work on his campaign, a crime which only came to light after one of his staffers accidentally released a work schedule, showing the employees on Rick's reelection payroll, at taxpayer expense, doing his reelection work when they were supposed to be doing the state's business.

The good news? I believe that the Tea Party is going to be gunning for him too.

I also believe that Perry is going to explore a presidential run. If he does run, it won't last long, as reports of his abuses of power while Governor wipe out any snowball's chance in hell he might actually have.

I always thought Hutchinson would have made a better governor than Perry. It wouldn't be too hard to do.

Perry doesn't have a chance at president. Even though the Republican party is full of phony "limited-government capitalists", Perry's stance against the basic principle of private property rights would be a huge factor keeping him from getting the nomination. Or at least I hope so. It seems like it would be so easy to point out he supported one of the biggest potential land grabs and one of the largest potential abuses of eminent domain in the nation's history. That doesn't sit well with republicans. Even the neocons.

Hwta is needed in the Nation from the local City Council to White House are people with a strong moral compass that points north rather than south like Obama or spin Like McCain's.

Neither one of these are what I would call Statesmen. We need people who don't bend with the wind of polls and has the strength of character to stand up to any opposition and fight for return to Constitutional values, and stand up to the Liberals and close the damn borders, while enforcing the immigration and hiring laws on the books and go after sanctuary cities and jail those who fail to obey the laws.

Then again, your "purity" remark may be spot on. I think such people are simply honest Americans intent on restoring the country to the fantastic contract the Founders provided to guide this nation. Their hearts and minds are pure, not of Eurosocialism, but American values, and hopefully when they enter the DC jungle they will remain committed to the values they hold and upholding their oath of office.

Senator Hutchinson is retiring. GOOD! Now we can replace her with a conservative. While I am no fan of Rick Perry, she wasn't the right answer, and lost because of it.

Why is it so bad to ask that Republicans run conservative candidates who will stand up for our beliefs and not "compromise" so much that they are indistinguishable from Democrats?

Because these Tea Party Republicans are much less likely to compromise with the SAPs. And you know for the good of the nation we need to get along, and that means Republicans must bend over and clutch their ankles.

As everyone can see, the bending and clutching policy has been very fruitful... for the Communist Chinese. We have 13,000,000,000,000 in debt, and they are buying it... and America a little at a time.

Ideological Purity is only permitted for those in the Socialist of Amerika Party (SAPs), if you are not pure, you get what is now known as The Joe Lieberman Treatment.

Never mind the last election was historic on all fronts... we need fewer Republicans that actually are Republicans, for that upsets the SAPs, and if the SAPs aren't happy, the journOlists ain't happy, and if the journOlists ain't happy, the SAPs ain't happy and we'll have huge mental healthcare costs as a result, and the country will crumble because of it.

Kay Bailey Hutchinson was someone, I would have voted for actually other than Rick let force woman to have vaccines that aren't tested on humans yet Perry. Hell, I may be a liberal but I would have voted for Kay because she was a more moderate Republican than most of the Tea Parties candidates.

How so? Housing prices are stable, unemployment is very low, industry is moving here in droves, quality of life is as good as ever.

The recession is only a rumor here. The only impact we've felt is that bank loans are harder to come by, but that's because they are tied into the liberal cluster**** states.

There is some spin on that one. The vaccine in question raised some controversy, but it had been tested before Perry tried to make it mandatory in Texas.

Gov. Rick Perry – usually a hero to social conservatives – surprised many of them Friday by making Texas the first state to mandate a vaccine for sixth-grade girls to prevent a sexually transmitted infection that leads to most kinds of cervical cancer.

In his executive order, Mr. Perry said girls must receive the human papillomavirus vaccine before school starts in September 2008. While noting that parents may opt out of the vaccine for conscience or religious reasons, he said it "provides us with an incredible opportunity to effectively target and prevent cervical cancer."

It is unclear whether the vaccine would be effective on women who have already been exposed to HPV and therefore is mostly recommended for those who are not yet sexually active. It is also still being tested to see if it can prevent cancers and disease in males.

The CDC states that tests on the vaccine included 11,000 females, ages 9 to 26, worldwide and that no serious side effects were reported.
