PADUA, Italy (Reuters) - Authorities in northern Italy have begun testing health workers for antibodies that may help identify individuals with immunity to the coronavirus as they look for ways to ease the lock down imposed a month ago to contain the epidemic.
I can announce that the blood tests on health workers have begun,” said regional governor Luca Zaia.
Following an initial phase of testing on 2,000-3,000 health workers, tests are to be extended to staff and residents in nursing homes and workers in contact with the public.
Zaia said the aim would ultimately be to allow authorities to issue “licences” for individuals with proven immunity to the virus to return to work.
After what Italy's been through, I think it's a reasonable way to start the return to normalcy - with the emphasis on, "start".Italian regions testing for signs of coronavirus immunity - Reuters
Testing for immunity will eventually spread to all Italians
Immunity Certificates-
And the EU- US-Canada
For those few I ask how will you react if they are mandatory in order to return to work- kids to school- company requires it and so on???

I can fully understand where you're coming from. But the reality is the virus determines Italy's future, not "fairness".Having a policy of issuing "return to work" licenses to those infected seems to run counter to encouraging the obeying of "stay at home" orders. If those who get infected (early) not only got any required medical care before the main rush was on, but get to return to work first as well, it seems to penalize those that took ample care to avoid getting infected at all.

Link for rapid at home testingtaly has been chatting about Immunity Certificates, which clears those infected, have the anti bodies and can resume work
Questions arise over how long these antibodies are viable??
C19 is not going away. It has spread to every population. Fauci motioned it could result in seasonal outbreaks.
Possibly yes, but I see 1 large issue is literally clearing residents block by block.
Those that had it, cleared, those that did not stay at home. Massive mobilization of staff to test people- I have problems with people performing and doing their own tests- do not trust them to finagle with blond samples tests as mentioned in the link

Same thing at the States level - those that went into shutdown earlier will have be on shutdown longer thanks to other states that did not bother to shutdown until later... unless they close State borders...
You guys are so sensible. I miss hanging with my Canuck relatives. It's been too long since I've seen them.Yes, as I mentioned in an other thread.
I also support it being mandatory. All costs incurred by the Govt-Health plans- no copay's - no restrictions -everyone tested

An at-home fingerprick blood test may help detect your exposure to coronavirus
Are you assuming that your state will issue such "return to work" licenses as a reward for having survived COVID-19 infection? That would seem to be political suicide for those supporting such measures.
Actually, yes. It's pure biology. We are biological beings (among other things).Law of the jungle?

Such a policy is not "pure biology" it is rewarding those, by government fiat, who violated more strict adherence to "stay at home" or "social distancing" policy and got infected over those who obeyed them and thus successfully avoided exposure.
I don't see it as a "reward".
It is possible I already had it. Two possible "incidents" a horrid lung thing the first week of February and a sniffle five days after working a conference full of south Koreans later in the month.
So before any stay at home orders.
If I am immune, I personally would be happy to volunteer to help where my immunity would protect me. For free as long as my unemployment holds.
To help my fellow Americans in their time of crisis. I could safely deliver food to those at serious risk, for example, as I wouldn't pose an additional risk to them in the process.
That's another way of looking at it.

A substantial number of infected include critical workers who can/have brought it home
This is about safe return to work, lowers infection rates, lessens the loads on Medical facilities - identifies those that are at risk.
Could they return to work?? Could be, but they would be aware on lacking anti bodies, company provides needed masks/gloves/sanitizers/ even areas to take a break separate from others(much like a nut allergy)
How many in a family have those with anti bodies- those with out? Informs people to take precautions
This will not be brought to heel easily and mass testing is required.
I'll take the test and take the endorsement that I am COVID immune, of course.
But that doesn't mean I'll immediately return to sloppy interactions like there's no problem.
I'll maintain caution and prudence while I await further developments.
As it stands, I am eager to get a seratoligical test now, to confirm that I did HAVE COVID-19 to begin with.
It also includes those who sold BigMacs through a drive up window, partied on Spring Break or simply went to the grocery store. In other words, drop the 'they could be heroes' nonsense. This is discrimination based on one's current COVID-19 status - pure and simple.
C19 will have larger impacts upon the world than 911/Berlin Wall falling/Iraq-AStan Wars combined and multiplied ever did.
Many do not see this worldwide change coming
Yep, if the test could determine when you were exposed. The point remains that those still at risk are being denied that chance to return to work (or do whatever else suits their fancy) and must remain at home while those exposed are no longer restricted. That confers a (legal?) benefit to having been exposed (auto vaccinated?) regardless of when or why not available to those who avoided infection.
Damn. Thanks, JANFU! :cheers:Sadly it is not contagious- you always had it, thank your parents and friends & education/experience for that
