The Jan. 6 committee is revealing dramatic details that may bolster the criminal case against Donald Trump for his efforts to overturn the 2020 election and to undermine our democracy. That question will ultimately be resolved by the Department of Justice and the courts. But what has already been corroborated by these damning details is that Trump is a clinical psychopath.

Many of our presidents over the years have had mental health problems, such as Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, Richard Nixon, and others. But none have had the serious personality pathology of Trump. The consensus among experts, at least those willing to publicly comment in spite of the Goldwater rule, is that Trump is a clinical psychopath. And no president or other political leader should have that kind of severe mental health dysfunction.

Psychopaths are hard-wired to win at all costs and never admit defeat. Incapable of love or empathy, the only gear they possess is the drive to dominate. They will bend reality in any way they can to stay on top. William Barr testified that Trump “never had any interest in what the actual facts were.” Thanks to the committee, we now know the ex-president’s closest advisors and family were trying to reason with him that there was no evidence of election fraud and that he had lost fairly.

i believe that is the thing that saddens me the most about the tRump era

the sheer number of Americans who continue to embrace him, his beliefs, and his actions is staggering. i now think so much less of the American public than i did before he arrived. it tests my confidence in the USA that my grandchildren will inherit

Interesting. I knew Lincoln struggled with chronic depression but had never heard of Jefferson's woes with it.

I have recently had to impose a unilateral rule on myself when my brother and father discuss politics and/or religion in my presence - non engagement. The arguments have become too stressful for my mother.

Trump & his following are a major threat to this country. We already see mob violence breaking out. One of a number of these investigations have to stop him. But he gets media exposure for free. This is like cancer.
