The real "screwup" was the revelation that asymptomatic carriers were doing most of the spreading. That really cannot be blamed on anyone. All Flus and most other infectious diseases do not become contagious until there are noticeable symptoms of illness by the infected. Covid is pretty unique.

I read the article, VySky. In the email cited in the article, Fauci confirmed that most masks are for already-infected people to keep them from spreading the virus. That is, they do not work to prevent you from catching it, but from spreading it.

Nowhere does he claim or admit that masks are totally ineffective. Presuming they are wearing it properly, a mask can prevent an infected person coughing or breathing virus particles on you.

As for the study cited by Zero Hedge regarding masks being ineffective, does the study take into account the fact that we had a cohort of people who were doggedly anti-mask and refused to wear a masks (or refused to wear them properly) in public areas? Because if 99% of people wear their masks in a grocery store, but one superspreader either refuses to or does not wear it properly (leaving, say their nose exposed), then the other people wearing masks of course does not help them because the superspreader is easily able to infect everyone else.

This is another post exemplifying how SOME people, "put money over life", and "money over health of society".... All the worry about is, how much money they did not and could not make during the lockdowns.
If the Virus escalate with a vengeance and go straight for these Anti Maskers, Anti Vaccines, Virus Denier types and cull their numbers... it might even be better for the entire world, because what will be left standing is, people who respect science, care about humanity and the health of people, care about democracy and dl no attack everything thing about our governing systems.

You know how they say "never let a crisis go to waste"? Well, COVID was EXACTLY what the globalists ordered along those lines. It was even better than running out of oil and global warming were as a way to instill fear and reliance on the government on a desperate and frightened public. The only thing that needed to happen was for government to keep the fear level topped out and not get blamed for anything. The US and the propagandists in the US media were awesome at that. The government was exactly what we needed, as Andrew Cuomo would prove, and Trump was fighting against the government so he needed to go. Life just didn't get any better if your entire world view was filtered through the political spectrum.

So we got St Anthony of Fauci on the one side and St Andrew of Cuomo on the other. The media heaped praise on them and Trump was finally kicked out of office. The only problem now is that it's becoming more and more clear that Trump was right and government, along with the propagandist media, was wrong..
 
It is not Dr. F.'s fault that the media made him a flawless hero in order to contrast him with President Trump.

I am not a very good judge of human nature, but I think that it is accurate to say that he vastly enjoyed the spotlight.

Of course, he was right on some things; he was wrong on other things.

As they say, knowledge about this virus tragedy is a work in progress.

In one year's time, there will be a lot of embarrassed "experts" who were so cocksure about various facets of this disaster.

The suffering -- physical, financial, & mental -- of this pandemic seems surreal.

So did Fauci or anyone else, prevent Trump from acting on his correct information? Why didn't Trump just make me love him in spite of myself by outperforming all those clowns?

Trump could have handled COVID a million different ways, and he went with trying to ignore it away. He's said so multiple times. I guess that was the right thing?

We've been down this road before. Trump blocked travel from China in January, even though Biden and others called him xenophobic for doing so, and followed that up with a ban on European travel. Trump didn't institute a national mask mandate because, among other things, the masks were needed for medical personnel. We also have a Constitution which prevents the president from making that kind of broad national mandate, not that doing so would have made much difference because the NeverTrump crowd opposed absolutely everything Trump said and did.

If Trump had been allowed to pursue the China origination theory we might have received better information about the virus sooner but, since the entire world was more focused on hating Trump than they were on actually dealing with the virus, that didn't happen.

Chinese Americans coming back from China were the first documented cases of covid here. His travel ban did nothing to stop that. His refusal to admit that covid was a problem slowed our response at a critical time and his refusal to use the Federal Govt. to help the States acquire needed supplies needlessly complicated and delayed those supplies. Covid did not "go away like a miracle" and Mr. One and done's lax precautions in the White House turned it into a cesspool that eventually infected him too. He also held super spreader rallies killing Herman Caine and numerous others. Nothing he said helped prevent the deaths of over a half million Americans and that is his legacy.

Trump's refusal to spread fear DID NOT restrict our response at all. At no point did he tell people not to wear masks or decry governors and mayors that put mask restrictions in place. He didn't outwardly support those decisions but he didn't oppose them either. Trump was focused on what we could reasonably do to get through the virus. Fauci and the media were focused on what we had to do if we wanted to prevent the virus. The former was a rational response. The latter was a pipe dream. The virus was going to happen, did happen and none of the safety measures turned out to be all that effective. We wrecked the economy out of an abundance of caution that now we are finding out was likely based on incomplete or, perhaps, manipulated information.
