Israel doesn't need our help; they are more than capable of functioning independently.

Israel to request $5 billion in aid - Israel News, Ynetnews

According to the report, Israel is interested in annual aid package of 5 billion dollars for a decade - that is 50 billion dollars. But US officials argue that the aid would be higher but less than what is requested by Israel. According to Reuters, a US official estimated that the Obama administration will compromise with Netanyahu for an amount ranging between 4 and 5 billion dollars. Before the crisis regarding the nuclear deal with Iran, Israeli and American officials discussed raising the amount of the package to 3.7 to 3.6 billion dollars.
 
Well, the article clearly shows what the aid is for, respectively what it will consist of in majority.

Yes, it is welfare for Israel and the military-industrial complex. It's the kind of welfare we can afford, unlike food stamps for our poor or a college education for our young.

Yeah well, what good are food stamps or affordable college education, if you can't discourage the neighbors from stomping all over you?

One of the major sources of the military industrial complex's lifeblood is the Israeli lobby.. No surprise here. But I agree, let them supply their own weapons. They are way more than capable.

Well if Obama isn't going to fight them, we may as well help pay for it, because one way or another, we will pay for it in the long run.

**** Israel. I always laugh when I see that ad requesting Americans send $25 aid boxes to poor elderly Israelis'. **** them too.
 
no matter what, provide israel with a comprehensive iron dome

we sold that as the counterbalance to the nuclear deal with iran

but that is it. not a shekel more

if israel has money to build settlements upon another's lands, then they do not need USA money

israel, walk away from the settlements. engage in legitimate peace negotiations. and ONLY then can we further discuss future monetary assistance beyond the cost to maintain iron dome

Maintaining an Occupation Army in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and periodically massacring Palestinian civilians in Gaza for half a century can be a pricey enterprise and could not have been done without US taxpayers' lolly.

The next POTUS, whoever he or she may be, needs to have...wait for it...a come-to-Jesus meeting with the PM of Israel regarding foreign aid. :mrgreen:

Anyone who sincerely believes that Israel hasn't been earnestly engaged in achieving a peace deal has no business commenting on this topic.

Israel gets a big chunk but Afghanistan typically gets more. In 2014 alone, we spent over 100 billion in foreign aid to allies and enemies alike.

The $150 billion figure comes from the estimated total in frozen Iranian assets in a number of countries. Iran, will, in fact, receive that amount, just not all from the US.

Partially correct. Indeed this is frozen assets spread among many countries but approximately $60B will go to paying off debts.

I've been here for more than six years, never have I seen anyone open a thread about US aid to Afghanistan and how it's been increased during the years that now it's at about 4.5b$, or US foreign aid to any other nation such as Egypt, Jordan, etc. Says everything there is to say on the nature of that opposition. People who oppose all US foreign aid are fine in my book, those who single out Israel are IMO hypocritical and are motivated by the kind of obvious and pathetic hatred one can find in Soho gator's posts.
 

To be fair we invaded and occupied Afghanistan so we are on the hook for foreign aid. OTOH we haven't invaded and occupied Israel (historical injustice?) So we shouldn't give them a ****ing dime. Nor should we give Egypt or any number of other countries aid. Edit I suppose their are countries that we should give aid to like after the tsunami but not on a recurring basis.

In the meantime **** Israel.
