A United Nations commission investigating the war in Gaza said Tuesday that Israel was committing genocide against Palestinians, the panel’s most sweeping findings yet about the Israeli government’s conduct in the conflict.

“The responsibility for these atrocity crimes lies with Israeli authorities at the highest echelons who have orchestrated a genocidal campaign for almost two years now with the specific intent to destroy the Palestinian group in Gaza,” the panel’s leader, Navi Pillay, a South African high court judge and former U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights, said in a statement.

In earlier reports, the commission found that Israel had committed war crimes and crimes against humanity in its conflict with Hamas, but stopped short of calling it genocide. Israel denounced the accusation as “fake.”

Nope, but “from the river to the sea” appears to be contest (battle?) between Arabs and Jews to claim (all or more of) that territory.

Both Palestine and Israel have their own little genocidal chants.

It’d be interesting if they could back off of one another and coexist without violence for a time. That’d be great. Easier said than done, especially for someone as uninvolved in their fighting as me.
 
As I said in the other thread on this, no one should be surprised this was the conclusion. Israel under Netanyahu has been on a revenge slaughter of everyone left alive in Gaza with the full intention of taking it all for Israel and resettlement.

You are entitled to make whatever stupid assumptions you like. Care you comment on the UN inquiry declaration that Israel is committing a genocide?
 

It would be so much better, and faster, if Hamas just surrendered... or better, if they never conducted their terrorist attack in the first place.

Why settle for just a barren piece of desert land when your ultimate goal is the total destruction of Israel? Ignore the fact that you have no ability to self govern let alone become economically viable and your love affair with terrorist organizations taints your ability to find support among other middle east counties. Matter of fact, the only thing you can do is drum up support among bleeding heart leftist who happen to have a well meaning but counter productive knee-jerk compulsion to help the underdog.

That is how a lot of people interpret that slogan I believe. I ask because I think a lot of people who defend Israel's actions aren't defending them because they're denying war crimes, mass slaughter, mass destruction, calls for ethnic cleansing, etc are actually taking place, but that these actions, while regrettable, are justified given the situation. Their argument is that they had no choice because Hamas forced their hand. My question to anyone arguing this: in what circumstances are war crimes (as defined by international law), ethnic cleansing, etc justified? Are there any specific actions taken by Israel that are considered war crimes under internation law that should not be? How should international law be changed to account for these circumstances?

Nope. We are talking about the easiest and fastest way to save people's lives... that is surrendering, immediately.
 
The UN is filled with terrorists, some who even helped on Oct 7th.

That solution depends on Hamas surrendering and Israel honoring any peace agreements and halting their offense. I view those things as pretty unlikely, so even if it's the easiest and fastest solution, I don't view it as a good excuse not to pursue alternative, more practical solutions as well.
 

I suppose that depends on who makes international law and who has the power to enforce it. Was the US use of nuclear weapons on Hiroshima and Nagasaki a war crime or against international law?
