This horrendous crime is intended to carry out two of Israel’s goals: shutter remaining Gaza medical facilities and kill journalists that are reporting on the genocide.

Israel claiming the killing of civilians was in error is a laughable lie. They targeted a functioning hospital, twice.

Israel’s twin strike on the Nasser hospital in Gaza, which killed five journalists including staff working for the Associated Press, Reuters, and Al Jazeera, is a potential violation of international law writ large.

While the Israel Defense Forces, which have killed about 200 journalists already in the Gaza war, immediately attempted to suggest the killing of civilians had been in error, the reality is that it appears to be policy and not a mistake.

What is striking about this incident is that each individual element – the targeting of a working hospital, of journalists and rescue workers, of civilian injured already under treatment – would be expected to draw accusations of a war crime in its own right.

Taken together it points to something far darker, a “horrific” incident in the words of the British foreign secretary, David Lammy.

A joint investigation in July by the Israeli +972 Magazine and Local Call reported that the IDF now routinely carried out additional attacks in the area of an initial bombing, sometimes intentionally killing paramedics and others involved in rescue efforts.

“If there’s a strike on a senior commander, another one will be carried out afterward to ensure rescue efforts don’t take place,” said one of +972’s sources who it said was present in an Israeli attack planning cell. “First responders, rescue teams – they kill them. They strike again, on top of them.”

Israeli authorities are going to investigate what happened and that will make it alt. right, just as the State of Israel has investigated and severely dealt with all other allegations of war crimes. The jails of Israel are bursting with war crime prisoners. Who knew so many Palestinians were willing to commit war crimes on behalf of the State of Israel against their own people? I think most supremacist based regimes are happy to control the other but in Israels case control isn't enough, the aim is to ethnically cleanse and so control , although necessary to inflict mass human rights violations and keep the resistance down, it offers little or nothing to the real goal.

I've not read it myself yet but there is a book available that was written by two Israelis in around 2004/5 iirc called Lords of the Land which outlines how the settlements have been used for exactly that.

While it does not help the innocent Palestinians at the moment, it is clear that Israel's years of unlimited aid and shielding from the United States are numbered. Thankfully, the younger generations despise Israel. The right-wing hates Israel for isolationist reasons and many for antisemitic reasons. The left-wing hates them mainly for humanitarian/social justice reasons. When the Boomers are mostly gone over the next decade, support for Israel will end.
