Is what Texas is doing any better than the Russians when it comes to elections?

The Russians fix their elections so that no matter what they win. Is the gerrymandering that Texas is doing right now any different, I do not think so. They are fixing the election so that no matter what, they win. Before we had these right wing cons on the SCOTUS, this would have been stopped by the Voting Rights Law, but of course those laws could have stopped the right wingers on the court from allowing the GOP to do as they want, including fixing the elections as they are doing. This is one more dagger in the corpse that will soon be the American democracy.

Russia is irrelevant.

A better question is, "Is what Texas is doing any better or worse than what Illinois has done when it comes to elections?"

one should look at the blue states Congressional gerrymandering already done if you are gonna invoke Russian autocracy
All gerrymandering is bad, but what Texas is doing is so far more i your face than any done before. Just so you know, I live in Wisconsin that is known to be the most gerrymandered state ever, Want to guess who has done the gerrymandering?

Worse!! But do not worry, after this, Illinois and many blue states will catch up to Texas. I wrote an OP about this becoming a gerrymandering war, and it is.

"catch up"???

They are so far ahead of Texas there's nothing else they can do.

No, but if they manage to shift 5 seats by redistricting, their Congressional delegation will be almost as badly skewed as CA's.

All I saw was Illinois and Mass (all blue seats) and one in Maryland called the "praying mantis" there was a movement to strip state legislators and give the mapping to an independent agency. Of course the 'independent' agencies" were crushed by powerful political forces
Im saying it's a practice long played by both parties. Dem's have a lot of states over-represents -but so is Florida -and DeSantis wants to redistrict again

It is odd that Democrat Voters are completely unaware that the Democrat Party has been gerrymandering for a hundred years.

California currently doesn't have partisan districting. It was done away with by the CA voters.

In 2008 and 2010, voters approved measures that require California's districts be drawn by an independent commission, and that has been the practice ever since. Schwarzenegger was a leader in those campaigns." Link

What's different about this is that the National Chief Executive Donald Trump has directed Texas to give Him HimSelf 5 Republican gerrymandered US House seats at the expense of 5 Democratic party seats. That's a MAGA +5 seats if that's what gets done.

The upshot is that since 2015 Trump and MAGAs have exploited democracy to destroy democracy. And that since 2015 Trump and MAGAs have exploited the Constitution to destroy the Constitution, the most high profile instance being J6. This Trump ordered redistricting in red states led by Texas is yet another among a multiplicity of such exploitations by MAGAs since 2015.

Well that's no surprise given your location is voluntarily given as "daily dukkah."

Your post is a complete waste of time btw. It's just more of the ever present MAGA denials.

Lest you forget, my post you're replying to said in part "Since 2015 Trump and MAGAs have exploited democracy to destroy democracy. And since 2015 Trump and MAGAs have exploited the Constitution to destroy the Constitution, the most high profile instance being J6."

Is what I posted.

Indeed, in 2012 a three judge US District Court panel in Washington found unanimously that the TX redistricting based on the 2010 census violated Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act. The court found that the redistricting of TX state House and Senate and Congressional Districts "diluted minority voting strength and discriminated against Hispanics and Black people"

This was after the DoJ denied preclearance of the redistricting in 2011, setting up the ruling by the US District Court in Washington DC that the map violated Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act. Worse yet for TX the senior judge on the panel ordered the unsealing of emails among TX Republican legislators that supported charges the VRA was violated.

Texas then AG Gregg Abbott appealed to the Supreme Court that rather than make a ruling sent the redistricting map back to the district court for a proper disposition. The district court completed redrawing the map to comport to Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act.

The lawsuits sidelined the map for the 2012 elections in TX so the district court created an "interim" map for the 2012 voting that itself was challenged in court but settled in time enough to be used in that year's election and only.
