Is Trump handing LA effectively?

Is Trump handing LA effectively?

Do you support "Americans" committing crimes and waving the Mexican Flag?

Those are the good people you support.
I’ve seen worse shit after Philly sports teams win championships.

Eagles fans STOLE A STREETLIGHT.

Then they brought it back to the victory parade.

Cops handle these things.

Not the military 🤷‍♀️

If the governor thought it was out of hand, HE would have called the NG.

He hasn’t.

Is Trump handling this effectively in terms of reducing violence? No.

Is Trump handling this in such a way as to give him a political win? Probably yes.

A lot of reporting has suggested that the same footage is being used over and over again to create the perception of a much bigger event than is actually happening. Given that both the mayor and the governor have both said they do not require this "help", that it is only making the situation more volatile, it would appear that while an "easy" solution may not be available, this particular "solution" is going to make things worse. Are there not opportunities to change the methodology of ICE to where they are not looked at as storm troopers? I'm sure narratives can be exaggerated, but if there's nothing to build the narrative off of in the first place, doesn't that limit the possibility of exaggeration?

Or was this response to the "mass deportation" goal inevitable, given how interwoven illegal immigrants are into America's fabric, no matter how it was carried out?
If ICE was attempting to apprehend individuals that had warrants issued by a judge, then methodology was working as designed. I also would expect the Gov and Mayor to not want help given their history so their statements do not surprise me. When you have a large number of people surround a federal building and threaten people and property then that is begging for a response which in my mind is the goal.

These types of things happen in many developed countries. Vancouver, London and Paris are a few examples.

Police departments are always able to get things under control given time and resources.

Using the armed forces against American civilians isn't a good look. But it's from the Authoritarian's Playbook.

Think about the countries who use the armed forces against civilians. They're not good company.

If you are an American citizen, why are you waving the Mexican Flag while burning cars and looting?

IT'S AN ABSOLUTE DISGRACE.

Did you feel the same way on Jan6 when rioters rushed the Capital. Some waving Trump flags?
Was it a Disgrace?

I do not understand those waiving the Mexican Flag in protest of ICE. I also question Trump's approach to removing illegals from the US. First it was going to be just the bad criminals. Now it seems even good workers who are here illegal are being targeted.

For Trumpers, ANY action he suggests are good actions.
For Trump "haters" any action he takes is Fascism.

To credit Mycroft (who would have ever have thought they would see the day) as long as they are protecting federal buildings and NOT engaging in crowd control there shouldn't be a problem.

I am more worried about the calling up of the Marines. To what end? At the point where the National Guard or the Marines start engaging with the rioters/protestors, there is where the line needs to be drawn.

Yet, for folks like Mycroft, despite the credit I just gave him, if force was being used on a civilian population by the NG or Marines, there are those on the Right would support this.

I would venture, AND I wouldn't be far off, that if a protestor/rioter was seriously injured or killed, some would rub their hands in glee (though none would admit it) that "we got one of 'em."

Interesting how Trump hasn’t dispatched the National Guard and Marines to Texas - there were a bunch of protests there in Austin and Dallas yesterday over ICE raids 🤷‍♀️

Who's the leader of the organized protests? How did the leader of the organized protests know about the raids before they happened?
All good questions. I'm sure there is no one in city, state politics who might have some advance knowledge of federal activities who wouldn't dream of passing on that info.
10 yrs? trump has been president for almost 1/2 of those 10 yrs. And encouraged protests, that turned to riot, after losing one of the elections.
Wonder where the problem starts?
Aside from the 4hrs on the Democrat holiday of Jan 6th, where do most all of the riots happen and by whom?

Waving a Mexican flag (or any other flag) isn't a crime, and something an American citizen can do without legal repercussion. Burning cars and looting are against the law and should be prosecuted whether or not someone is flying a Mexican flag (or any other flag).

Wasted opportunity to deploy paratroopers to land right in front of the protestors and show them who's the bawse. I hope it wasn't because the governor is a political ally and he didn't want to overstep....
;)

Ok... do you think this particular response will work to calm things down, or do you think this particular response will make things worse?

I voted other.
What @ttwwtt78640 wrote in Post #9.

Other. The use of military/NG to protect federal buildings, from ‘mostly peaceful’ protestors, frees up state/local LEOs to deal with crime in other places. IIRC, those objecting loudest to this situation called for the use of military/NG to protect the US Capitol on 1/6/2021.

Yeah, that's nonsense. Police in large cities have plenty of resources to routinely handle large events, such as protests, parades, street fairs and more.

If we followed your logic, then every big city should have National Guards and Marines show up every St Patrick's Day.

usually they wait for the Pot to boil a bit; people in TX haven't had enuf yet.

but they will.

MSN is writing about what is behind all of this my friends.

and surprise, they got it mostly right but didn't go deeeeep enuf.

.

There is no question that sending military to LA isn't an "effective" way to handle protests. That isn't even the goal. It's just another authoritarian power grab.

I think it's a no-win situation for Trump but a win-win for those who are fanning this. Anything Trump does that can viewed through the lens of force will perpetuate the narrative that he wants to be a dictator, etc. will be a win. If they withdraw their efforts to protect federal property and personnel along with abandoning their efforts to apprehend people who aren't supposed to be here, then it will be seen as a win for those standing up to one of his policy initiatives.

What non-inflammatory method of federal immigration law enforcement would you suggest? These sanctuary states/cities have refused to allow letting illegal aliens be taken by ICE agents while already in state/local custody.

I mean, in terms of handling the deportation, pretty much anything would be better than "because I said so, and here come my goons"...hehe... Are you suggesting that Trump has lost his past marketing / negotiating skills, to where all his initiatives will result in riots? Does doubling down by sending in the national guard and threatening to send the marines make this likely to end any better?

You're doing that thing you do where you refuse to answer a simple question because it forces you to admit something rather obvious. How about a simple yes / no to the question in the OP? I mean, if you think this is all going to work out tickety-poo, why even consider other solutions? The conversation begins with your assessment of the current state.

I tend to agree, while refraining from giving my opinion on whether or not that narrative is valid.

Why do you think Trump let himself get painted into a corner like this?

"worse" is a matter of perspective. For Trump, the best thing that could happen is all out revolt with ALL the accompaning violence. This would 'prove' Trump right, allowing him to justify and assert even more authority and control.

MAGAs will cheer this.

I suspect people that get all in a tizzy about this have never lived in or near a large city 🤷‍♀️

Good bit of self awareness there.

I wouldn't, but I'm sure some would. Just like many Democrats celebrated Ashli Babbitt being shot and killed.
