Is this racist, like the stimulus monkey cartoon?

20090218.jpg

Calling the GOP the Confederacy is not racist, nor was the monkey stimulus cartoon. Why the **** does everything have to be racist these days? I think people have really gotten the whole making a mountain out of a molehill thing down to a science these days.

That comic, BTW, was made because there was talk about the next Resident Evil game being racist. Idiots.

The stimulus monkey cartoon wasn't racist and this issue certainly isn't racist either. A lot of people completely missed the point of the monkey cartoon and didn't read the talk bubble which clearly shows that it had nothing to do with Obama. I'm rather curious why you would try to compare the two because I fail to see how saying the GOP looks like 'the Confederacy' could be construed as racist. The monkey cartoon could be construed as racist if it was specifically about Obama, which it wasn't. I don't see how they could even be remotely compared. Could you clarify more, please?

I dont think either was racist. Clarified?

I realize this, but I'm trying to understand why you would try to compare the two when one could be construed as racist if the target was changed and the other one can't really be construed as racist at all.

...... I try to imagine if I ran around my hall calling everyone I saw a "stupid Confederate" if they would deck me because I called them stupid or if I called them a Confederate. Chances are because I called them stupid.

If I ran around my hall calling everyone a "stupid nigger" then I do declare that I will get decked because of the "nigger" part and not the stupid.

Who called who a nigger in either of these events?

FAIL

I know I know.... It is SOOOO me when I say fail that is a problem around here!

On the GOP being the confederacy :

The modern GOP voting bloc is the result of Southern Whites feeling disenfranchised by the Democrats pro-desegregation move of the 60s and becoming Republicans under the premise of 'state rights' & 'nationalism'. Let us not forget that historically it was Southern Democrats who fought for slavery(or 'states rights' whatever they're calling the right to own people is being called these days) while Northern Republicans fought to end it. While today the Democrats have a strong hold in the North and Republicans are holding the South.

It is no secret to the political world that somewhere in the 50s and 60s Dixiecrats(think Strom Thurmond, Democrat, South Carolina) saw a change in the Democratic party they did not like. The Democrats saw an advantage in allowing blacks to vote that only the most ardent of racists in the party would have opposed. And they did in the droves. Literally millions of formerly Democrat supporting but at that time nigger hating whites saw themselves without a real party. Their former party was now in the graces of blacks because of LBJs Civil Right's Act of '64. And in this moment of political loneliness for the white man who came in like the cavalry? The Southern Strategy, Nixon and Republicans. It was too taboo to keep using segregation as a stick so they used 'States rights'. To some extent if the GOP is being called or compared to the Confederacy. They have only themselves to blame for their use of their use of the Southern Strategy in the 60s and 70s.

On the cartoon : I didn't get it. I thought the one by the New Yorker was a lot clearer...

....and a hell of a lot funnier. I think very few self respecting cartoonists are into the whole race baiting thing. Even the guy from Boondocks makes some pretty good points. Cartoons are meant to be laughed at for the most part. I even laugh at some pro-KKK cartoons. Their **** is ridiculous on the face. But hey. If you laugh. You laugh.

Nevermind. I see you'd rather play the baiting game. Have fun.

Like you had a coherent argument. Please........

Don't use your intellectual deficiency as an excuse not to explain yourself. I mean by all means. who am I to see through your nonsense.

How was one racist and one not..... Don't let party infuencle you "non-partisan" position.......

I think it points out the hypersensitivity and lack of reason that we as a whole seem to suffer from these days. Yes one could be taken to be racist, but the other brings up imagery of racism as well. It's just against white folk, so we don't quite think it as bad. But if one wanted to, they could make calls of racism. We seem to turn to it at a drop of a hat. It's because of this hypersensitivity and lack of reason that we can't seem to let this go. We see a cartoon with a shot monkey and it's "racism!". We see one of the main characters in RE 5 being white and fighting zombies in Africa and it's "racism!". Racism this and racism that, we over-analyze and look for it in whatever we can find. It was a huge problem in the past, but it doesn't have to be a huge problem in the future. We just have to learn, grow, employ some damned common sense and rationale. Not everything is racist.

I asked a simple question and you decided to be an ass about it. I said nothing about being partisan I just didn't understand why you were comparing the two and wanted you to clarify it. Obviously you couldn't do that without being a dick so I'm done talking to you.

Nobody called anyone a nigger I was just simply comparing a clearly racist term (nigger) (the positive control) to a questionable racist term (confederate) (the variable).
Jesus Christ.

What does that have to do with the thread and my two examples?

Jesus Christ.

No, you can just call me "Reverend" :2wave:

The thread is titled: "Is this racist, like the stimulus monkey cartoon?"
And the link calls the G.O.P the Confederacy. Thus, I imagine you were asking is calling the G.O.P the Confederacy racist, or not.
So, I did a little hypothetical experiment to see if it was.

No, you can just call me "Reverend" :2wave:[/QUOTE]

Only when I am in a good mood.
