Sort of.

The problem with the U.S was its greatness was built upon a practical, pragmatic, common sense approach to things.

Now we are neither practical, nor are we pragmatic and common sense left the building some time ago.

When we realize these traits are requirements and not suggestions we’ll make something of a comeback.

This is the world we live in now.

Its called "Trump the Ride", strap up!!

Yes, yes this does remind me that we are all riding on the redneck Titanic.

You should have dual citizenship with Mexico or Canada so you don't have to live in this terrible country any longer.
Take heart! In less than four years Trump will be history.
We lived through four years of Carter and survived.

What makes you sure he will leave office? He attempted a self coup before, why not?

Unlike you, I have confidence in the guardrails inherent in our Constitution. That's what real Americans believe.

What you've posted seems very incomplete. Why would I trust trump to obey the courts, Congress or the Constitution?

Because he doesn't want to be impeached after 2026 if the GOP loses the House. He'd rather fight with federal judges than a Dems house majority and a possible Dems Senate majority after the 2026 mid-terms.

That might be what happens, but that doesn't mean I have a reason to trust him.

You show me a voter who can trust Trump and I'll show you an NFL fan who believes he can make online bets and win.

I guess this means you don't trust him either.

Ever notice that: Not all MAGA’ites are WTN, but all of WTN are MAGA’ites.

Might be relevant.
In the real world most of us are stuck on this dumb roller coaster ride.

No, it’s not a roller oaster. It’s a vehicle driving off a cliff and done of us are handcuffed in the lock trunk screaming, “Why are you driving toward this cliff?”.

I trust our Constitution and the body of laws emanating from that cherished document.
I do not trust him personally.
But don't tell him that. I don't wish to visit EL Salvador without first having a hearing.

Why would he care? He has been impeached twice. Unless Trump bungles so badly and the Electoral map shifts so radically that not only a majority of Republican voters refuse to vote for Trump, but some Trump voters cross the aisle and vote Democratic in the Midterms, there are not going to be 67 Democratic Senators taking their seats in January 2027.

Why would it have to be only Democrats voting to convict Trump?

Because I do not believe for one moment there is a single elected Republican Congressperson who would do anything to lift a finger to stop Donald Trump from destroying the country, jaypatriot. They are all either fully on board with Donald Trump's plans or they are too cowardly to stop him and have gone too far to stop now. Trump has already done the equivalent of putting the guns in their hands and having them shoot the hostages on camera. He has made them complicit in the actions of his regime. There is no going back now.

Well, I don't think one is separate from the other. If the Scotus issues a ruling he doesn't like, I don't think he will obey. I don't see any entity that can force him to obey the law or conform to constitutional requirements. His cabinet won't act in under 25th. Impeachment is a long shot even after the midterms because very loyal Republicans senators can prevent the 2/3 vote needed to convict. The supreme Court has created immunity for a president, but they don't have any enforcement mechanism, they don't have a police force. His DOJ will never investigate anything about him.

I'm saying we don't have constitutional checks and balances because Trump doesn't respect them. That's why I don't see the idea that the Constitution will protect us from abuse of power since Trump believes he's above the law.

That is the gloomiest outlook I have read this far into Trump's presidency. That is so pessimistic I don't know how I can have a positive thought for the rest of the week.
