OK here is the deal… I was watching CSPAN today on TV and they asked me to vote on a poll located on their website… The poll was about Iraq and options similar to those posed by the members of congress… Well I went and voted to find out I was in the minority big-time as to whether or not to stay the course until the Sept. report… I thought could this poll be correct or not? Very few people participated in the poll, I think less than 2,000… but the rate of cut and run to stay the course was like 52% to 17%... I just couldn’t grasp the fact that so many American people had been brainwashed to agree with the Democrats.

Well I went to a site by the name www.vote.com and learned that the CSPAN link was fixed… Check it out I went to the site and voted and then went to every left wing site I knew to state the truth that the majority of the people desire us to win in Iraq… but the margin remains clearly on the side of the Republican party.

So, here is the challenge: if you think this site is fixed then do as I did and try to change the outcome of the vote by inviting liberal voters…

I think most of the liberals will say that this site is a conservative site and that is why it tends to trend to the right. But how could it not be beat up by liberals voting in numbers that exceed the “minority” opinion?

The challenge is to write everyone on your email list and ask them to visit the site for one week to vote liberal to see if you can change the result… Liberals tend to make excuses and I’m sure that all liberals will make excuses as to why they can’t adjust the outcome of votes on this site no matter how many friends they contact. Whiners!

Sounds to me like you're the only one whining. I've never heard anyone seriously make the claim that this site is biased toward either the left or the right. And even if it was, who cares?

And try rephrasing your poll question in comprehensible English. I have absolutely no idea what the question is, or what I'd be voting for with any of the options.

So it is your belief...that most Americans want our troops to stay in Iraq? Are you on crack or are you just playing dumb?

I think this forum leans left.....A lot of the liberals that are members for some reason are ashamed to be addressed as such.....They called themselves moderates or slightly liberal when in fact they are about as left as you can be without being called whacko left..........

Call it what ever you like but it still remains choosing the Iraqis lives or our Troops lives.

BTW: How can we 'surrender' being involved in a Civil War?
There is nothing to be won or lost if we stay there or pull out. For every 10,000 more of our troops we send there there will be another 10,000 more body bombers there. Whats the point of getting more of our troops killed daily there?

It sounds like you are accusing a site of fixing it's results because those results are not to your liking. Sounds like it's a conservative that's making excuses...

I think you are confused because the site vote.com and I share the same majority opinion on almost all issues up for vote... check out their archive votes.

The reason I compared it with the CSPAN poll was to show opposites in opinion from on poll to another. I used to vote on vote.com almost daily a few years back but noticed that it never reflected national poll results but, in fact was generally the opposite in results. I subscribe to a number of web sites and like this one the left population is larger than the right… I tell everyone to go to this site and vote to see if it changes the outcome but the site remains very far right. Why?

Could it be that the general population answers polls but doesn’t vote and that the portion of the population that votes hold firm CSPAN/ VOTE.COM positions equal to that we will watch in action on the Senate floor tonight?

This site is far right? How? Or are you talking about another site?

Maybe people who watch C-SPAN are just smarter.

If you follow the CSPAN poll you will find less people respond to it than to the Vote.Com poll so regardless of the IQ of the voter the simple idea of voting would indicate the largest number would rule in a government set up as ours?

There's almost definitely a hell of a lot more conservaties roaming around here than anything else. I would hardly call it a right-wing site, however. It caters to both needs, it just so happens that this place is paved with conservatives.

Oh, so now the only idealogy that is "true" Conservative and to the right is the way people like you and Stinger think?

Hahaha, doesn't surprise me one bit then that most people aren't "true" Conservative and to the right then if that's the case :2wave:

Could it be that your sooo far right than mostly everyone else is left of you??? :)

A glance of the stats will tell you that their are more conservative members than liberals or moderates.
But for what its worth, I think this site is pretty damned balanced compared to other sites.

I think this site is pretty well balanced myself. There are a few left wing and right wing whackos here that jam up intelligent discussions with their partisan talking points, but for the most part this board, at least to me, seems to be made up of alot of moderate or independent people when you look at the whole picture. Also alot of libertarians here, which is something I had very little exposure to before coming here. Interesting group of people they are....Not sure if you can consider them left or right, but they certianley aren't moderate.

Perhaps there is some confussion... the title of the debate referrs to Vote.Vom and not this site... Perhaps if you re read the first post again it will make a little more sense.

It is called respondent bias, many polls suffer from this problem and hence are not considered to be representative. If Fox News has an online poll, the respondents are most likely going to be conservative. Also, since not everyone is going to respond to the poll, only the dedicated or w/e you want to call them, you're going to have additional bias bcuz only the hardcore or "true" conservatives or whatever are going to respond.

As for changing the numbers on vote.com, not gonna happen, the ones I looked at would need around one thousand votes for the minority to change the outcome.

I will admit that online polls will tend to be more liberal.

Generally, young people tend to be more liberal then old people. Young people use the internet more then older people.

Internet connection(especially fast internet connection) is more accessible in bigger cities... which tend to be liberal leaning.

I said I subscribe to a number of web sites and like this one the left population is larger than the right… I tell everyone to go to this site and vote to see if it changes the outcome but the site remains very far right. Why?

Ah. I don't think most of us knew what you were talking about. Sorry.

It was a throwaway joke. People who watch C-SPAN are probably more poltically informed than most on vote.com- which is amazingly conservative anyway. National polls have shown that a decent percentage (at least 40%, I think) americans want Guantanamo Bay to close, but "No" responses beat Yes on that question 94% to 6% on vote.com. The site is likely advertised on other consevative websites or something.

I am not going to comment on the leanings of this site in particular. However as far as online voting polls go . . . Republicans tend to have more free time and money to set online and mess with the polls. For example they probably own more computers that they can use to make one person have more than one vote; they tend to have office jobs so they can be online more than the bluecollar Democrats and so on. Online polling is simply not an effective representation of real polling.

A perfect example you call yourself a centrist when all your posts give you away as a liberal...

NP....exatcly what gives him away as a liberal? :|

I like this site, I'd have to say it leans a bit right though. Nothing wrong with that of course.

Greta Wodele (franticly searching for a pic!!!) is always a nice sight to wake up to.

I never miss c-span's Washington Journal call-ins..

Has anyone ever called?

Greta!!!

...sorry

A perfect example you call yourself a centrist when all your posts give you away as a liberal...

Right, because I've made my political stance and opinions known.

I've argued the physics of 9/11 and the chemical releases involved in homosexuality. Oh, and the apparent Saddam/Al Qaeda connection. I haven't given my opinion on any policies or anything.

You have nothing. Do you want me to be liberal? That would suit your theory fine, right?
