I read this some two years or so ago and saved it. I thought I’d post it because I thought it was very interesting and insightful.

Is there a heaven after death?

There's no way to know for sure; No one has been dead for a lengthy amount of time and have come back to tell the tale. Those who were dead only for a few moments have reported similar instances of floating down a tunnel towards a light with all the worries being nullified, but even these have slightly different interpretations depending on which individual is giving the experience.

I doubt many of these people were lying about seeing something beyond their grave, but it's also possible this was an experience their brain was defaulting to in the final of final moments before they fully succumbed to their non-existence, sort of like a dream. It's also possible they truly didn't experience anything, but their brain inserted those memories after they woke up to help make sense out of what happened to them- After all, being told you almost died is no doubt a traumatic experience on some level.

It's possible the subconscious soul truly does exist and perhaps when we die, our soul constructs an experience that we would most want to feel, or what we think we most deserve to feel. After all, there's no way to confirm or deny that the life we're experiencing right now is that very world. For all we know, our current world exists only in our heads. This may be a rather dark thought to such a simple question, but perhaps there is a much more harsh and unfair world that exists beyond this one, and our brain was so unable to handle the reality of our existence, that it forced itself into some sort of coma, and the current world we are experiencing is one manifested by our brain to help make our life bearable. After all, what about those times you think you see something out of the corner of your eye but suddenly it's gone? Have you ever heard a strange noise or think you hear someone call your name, but you can't pin where it came from? Or maybe we get close to waking up and experience some sort of dizziness before our brain snaps ourself back into our made up reality.

I know I've said a lot, and little is related to the actual question, but my main point is that if heaven is real, it is probably on some level of existence that's beyond our understanding of consciousness. Consciousness is something we can never truly understand- Take dreams for instance. It's hard to understand how we can have dreams where reality is so different than what we know it to be, and yet while we were in the dream (unless if we lucid dreamed), we were so certain that that reality was the true one.

Even if nothing exists beyond the afterlife, there's nothing scary about being in an eternal unconscious state, identical to what we feel before we're conceived, under anesthetics at the doctor, or asleep but haven't begun dreaming yet.

Regardless of what lies beyond the grave, and regardless of whatever God(s) may be watching over us, I have a hunch that it's all going to be okay

Christians believe there is a biblical heaven, as described and promised by Christ.

For many of those who have had an experience with GOD - there is no longer any doubt.
Millions of testimonies from people of all walks of life around the world.
They've had their own personal evidence that The GOD of Abraham, is, the One true God.

I think the brain goes into some sort of 'safe mode'. It is a computer after all. ;)

In the few I've seen not long before passing, they were at peace while still lucid.

At the end, 'the light' may be the brains way of dealing with the hard shut down.

While it knows other parts have fully failed, science has pointed to it still being powered for a time.
Hold the power button in?🤷‍♂️

A friend told me once religion is our brain's defense mechanism to grapple with death. I thought it was an interesting thought and have come to agree with it.

He can use the other one.

He can't. That one was wrecked when the pilot mistook the runway edge lights for the center line lights.

A report from the National Transportation Safety Board on the nature of the accident involving Dollar's ministry plane on Nov. 24, 2014, however, indicates that the need for a new plane might've stemmed from a lot more than the aircraft simply getting old, but due to significant damage from the accident.

"A Gulfstream Aerospace G-1159A airplane, N103CD, had a nose landing gear collapse during a runway excursion at the London Biggin Hill Airport (EGKB), near London, United Kingdom. The airplane sustained substantial airframe damage," the report said of the Nov. 24 accident, a photo of which can be viewed here.

Except religion is just a healthy humans way of not fearing death down the road in their own mind. It's imposed upon them and they run with it to not accept the inevitable.

Nothing to do with the 'mechanism '. That just sends you to 'the light'.

Jesus tells us in scripture that he has prepared a place for the saved. For he has a mansion with many rooms.

John 14:2
In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?

Jesus didn't tell you a thing. Something someone had written did.

How big is the mansion? Eternity bed and bath?

Because 'said so' made it factual?

I have an Airbnb that will shower you before you get out of bed. Fact. :cautious:

Rational out the window.

Leviticus 15:19-24

19 And if a woman have an issue, and her issue in her flesh be blood, she shall be put apart seven days: and whosoever toucheth her shall be unclean until the even.

20 And every thing that she lieth upon in her separation shall be unclean: every thing also that she sitteth upon shall be unclean.

21 And whosoever toucheth her bed shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even.

22 And whosoever toucheth any thing that she sat upon shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even.

23 And if it be on her bed, or on any thing whereon she sitteth, when he toucheth it, he shall be unclean until the even.

24 And if any man lie with her at all, and her flowers be upon him, he shall be unclean seven days; and all the bed whereon he lieth shall be unclean.

Exodus 21

King James Version

21 Now these are the judgments which thou shalt set before them.
2 If thou buy an Hebrew servant, six years he shall serve: and in the seventh he shall go out free for nothing.
3 If he came in by himself, he shall go out by himself: if he were married, then his wife shall go out with him.
4 If his master have given him a wife, and she have born him sons or daughters; the wife and her children shall be her master's, and he shall go out by himself.
5 And if the servant shall plainly say, I love my master, my wife, and my children; I will not go out free:
6 Then his master shall bring him unto the judges; he shall also bring him to the door, or unto the door post; and his master shall bore his ear through with an aul; and he shall serve him for ever.
7 And if a man sell his daughter to be a maidservant, she shall not go out as the menservants do.
8 If she please not her master, who hath betrothed her to himself, then shall he let her be redeemed: to sell her unto a strange nation he shall have no power, seeing he hath dealt deceitfully with her.

Yo, folks.

You believe what you want to believe.
You believe you're nothing after death.................fine!
Go happy in knowing this life is all you get.
Bon voyage.
Have a good..................... and, peaceful.......................... rot.

Too bad, I can't even say to you....................au revoir.
There won't be any meeting again..................... if you stay that course.

But why does it bother you so much that Christians believe in the afterlife, a life that their GOD had promised them?
That they ooze confidence in it?
100% sure about it?
That's their belief!
They look forward to the afterlife.
To them - this life is just a truck stop.

To them - life, indeed, goes on.
AFTER THIS JOURNEY.

What makes you think it bothers anyone more than you are bothered by anyone not believing in your God?

I think we are only bothered when your God is being imposed on us.

Now this specific part can become an issue for others if it turns into 9/11 style events of those... as you say... looking forward to their "afterlife".

@poppopfox

There is a difference.

Speaking for myself - it "bothers" me that people who don't accept Christ, aren't going to be saved.
Nevertheless, it ain't over till the fat lady sings. There is still hope while you are alive here on earth.

Furthermore,

it is a CHRISTIAN DUTY - A COMMISSION - to spread the Gospel.
To point out the CHOICES we have on how we spend eternity.
To teach about Christ IS A MANDATE to Christians!

On the other hand - atheist does not have to react at every Christian claim about their belief!
Especially so, when Christians talk about the afterlife!
The afterlife is very much the ICING ON THE CAKE of Christianity! It i the REWARD!
You do understand - it is their FAITH!

And dear Christians I'm serious. In living my life I mind my own business about your beliefs*, you do the same.

*outside of this forum 😁

Nobody's forcing you to listen or read.

You can tune us out.
When you read the OP - you know what this thread is going to be about. You could get out of the thread, you know.
You don't have to hang around like as if you're tied down to it.

That simple.

I am bothered though, of the attempt by some, to control and censor.................. Freedom of Expression.

Well I don't understand that word salad.
Lol - 9/11 is nothing compared to the biblical apocalypse.

But what I do know for a fact - if atheists happen to be right that there is no after life - you won't even know about it - and they can't gloat that they were right!

Whereas - if Christians turn out to be right (and we are) - though we won't be gloating - we can surely chorus to atheists...............

..........WE TOLD YOU SO!

You should look in the mirror and say that to yourself.

Answer the OP the way you want to.

Never mind how Christians answer it.

MYOB. 😁
