You seriously think for one minute that if I am selling my friend a gun I am going to run down to the FFL dealer pay a fee and have my friend go through a background check? I'll meet ya there. No really just wait ill be right there ....

What do you find funny about giving your gun to somebody with a violent criminal background with gun abuse or history of mental illness?

There are background checks for the commercial sale of guns. Private sales are just that, private...

I have no idea what "a system that is 100 in existence "means because it makes no sense and is really butchering the English language.

What part about this grammatically correct written sentence do you fail to comprehend? We have background checks for some firearms and we do not have background checks for other firearms.

I believe it is important -yes.

A few people have mentioned sales between buddies or friends. Actually, it is much much broader than that and you are well aware of that.

btw - how is a sale for money not "a commercial sale"?

That's great.. since no one.. certainly not the gun lobby is saying that the second amendment protects every type of arm. No one is saying that 6 year olds should be able to buy a Glock or that my father should be able to purchase 20 surface to air anything.

What we ARE talking about is two 60 some year old target pistols that WERE owned by a seventy some year old gentleman who was law abiding and a good citizen.. that had to get rid of his guns or be a criminal or destroy the historic value of his collectables...

And for what? Because in NO WAY is anyone safer.

It depends on whether or not a person is engaged in the business of purchasing and then selling guns for a profit. If one simply sells a gun they've had but no longer need or want, then it's a private sale. Whereas a person who regularly purchases guns for the expressed purpose of resale would need to hold an FFL and perform background checks before a sale could be completed...

Perhaps then you can explain how a sale for money is not a COMMERCIAL SALE?

That statement is wrong. The background check is not conducted on firearms. It seems your grammar isn't actually correct there. But I will cut you slack because I understand context and what you meant.

This is the only part of the statement that matters. You agree. There is an extant system that we do conduct background checks through? Do you accept that premise? Or do you think that premise is a lie?

Do you want a serious discussion or not? What is your definition of "selling some guns"? Surely you're smart enough to recognize the difference between your scenario and what would be considered to be a legal, private gun sale...

I think whats funny is you thinking that someone with a violent criminal background or history of dangerous mental illness is going to be stopped by a background check...

I can see it now... Crue runs a background check on the violent criminal who plans on murdering 20 school children...

"Sorry sir, but you can't buy this gun"..

Now.. do you really think the violent criminal or deranged madman is going to say "Gosh darn shucky geez and walk away?"

Wait a minute.. you probably DO think that..

Those of us that have common sense realize that a madman/criminal intent on destruction is going to bop Crue on the head or murder him and take what he wants and no background check is going to deter him one bit.

The premise is a lie because it is only part of the story while disguised to make the unsuspecting believe it is the story. Of course, this comes as no surprise to you since it has been explained many many many many times here.

I guess you could also say that people kill everyday. Even though all do not kill - some do. That fits right into the skewed logic that you can tell a partial truth and its not dishonest to do that.

So how many people have been turned down for gun purchases because of background checks? If your premise is right - the answer is NOBODY.
