However, many on social media have begun to sound the alarm that the ongoing earthquakes could signal an even bigger disaster, as the earthquake swarms have taken place just miles from the McDermitt super volcano.

We had the Harvest Supermoon last night. Something to do with the orbit. As for the end of the world the same poster was prophesying it only a couple of months ago.
 
On March 3, 2026, a total lunar eclipse, often called a "Blood Moon," will occur and be visible across much of the night side of Earth, including North America, Australia, and parts of Asia. During this event, the full Moon will pass completely into Earth's shadow, making it dim and appear reddish-orange.

Thirty days later, everyone will realise the world did not end.

That's right. September is over. No end of world. I guess the religious nuts were wrong. Again.
 
In case anyone is curious, we are all here... still.
 
This reminds me of the Y2K fears. (Look it up, youngsters.) But at least then as opposed to now there was a - literally - down to earth rationale, a massive computer freakout.

There are apparently competing histories which state or deny that this sort of panic occurred as 1000 drew near (do other cultures with different numerations have similar fears?). Also some panic happened when a comet appeared, even perhaps when the New World was encountered. In the latter case, I remember some movie where Central American indigenous people were fleeing through the jungle from some sort of attack or natural disaster, and as they emerged from the jungle to the seashore, they were met by the sight of Spanish explorers’ ships. I believe the film ended with that ominous scene. (Anyone remember the film’s title?)
