Now that republicans control all branches of government, cutting our resources to fund an authoritarian police state, republican voters say the country is moving in the wrong direction.

More than half of Republicans now say the country is heading in the wrong direction, a new AP-NORC poll shows. The new survey conducted between Sept. 11 and Sept. 15 found that 51 percent of Republican voters say the country is heading in the wrong direction, up from 26 percent in March. What’s more, less than half of Republicans (49 percent) now say the country is heading in the right direction, down from 70 percent in June. Republican women and individuals under 45 are more likely to say that America is not on the right track.

Do you agree?

Trump and Miller are killing free speech now that they're in absolute power and authority. They're shutting down all of the opposition he can get away with. Trump-Miller are already at work to kill any free and fair voting in the '26 midterms and if necessary, to include killing any kind of free and fair quadrennial election that might be held in '28.

Perhaps the more terrifying conclusion is that the country isn't heading in any direction at all. The consensus has become so eroded that "right" and "wrong" don't even really have meaning.

Do you agree?
The ultimate rhetorical question, the answer to which is "of course."

You should have asked more about the speed at which its moving in the wrong direction. Watching American democracy collapse in front of us is not a pretty sight. Realizing the complete lack of courage of our political and business leaders and the SCOTUS to stand up for what is right is the most surprising aspect to this. There is no American leader that I can think of today, in the public or private sector, that would be a "profile in courage"..... cowards all.

We have lost nearly 500,000 men in the battle to preserve the American way of life, which has been provided by our form of democracy. I recently attended a baseball game in Milwaukee where the Brewers honored WWII vets making a big deal out of the defense freedom, democracy and the American way of life. I was actually offended or appalled to be in a coward of people cheering these soldiers having just voted for a guy that clearly was an anathema to everything lauded on the field that day. My thought was I was in a group of fools.

I really don't want people cheering for our soldiers until they actually learn to appreciate exactly why we have soldiers and what they actually have done. This salute the vet thing has become shallow pageantry. It is really time for Americans to get in touch with what America is all about... it ain't the path the Trump administration is taking us down.

Trump is following communist dictators Putin's and Kim Jong Un's leads and trying to silence all critics. Of course, our country is "heading in the wrong direction."
He is not following communist dictators nor Hitler.... He is, however, following Viktor Orban's approach, which is to use the levers of government to dismantle democracy. Viktor Orban, in addition to be the dictator of Hungary, was a consultant to Project 2025. It is all in the plan.

It is certainly lawless at this point.

I suppose we should be thankful the President can't see past his own dick.

The country has been moving in the wrong direction for over 40 years.
In that time period, the middle class has been decimated. Small towns all over the country have been wiped out as manufacturing has all went to Mexico and China.
Home ownership has fallen, while home prices have skyrocketed well above wages.
College tuition has risen outrageously, putting our young in 5 and 6 figure debt to start their lives out - because the government did nothing about the ever rising, unexplainable reason why tuition was raising so much - and just threw money at children who had no idea or concept of the damage this would do to them.
Wage stagnation occurred at the same time the investor class went from being $millionaires to $billionaires to soon to be = $trillionaires.

IN THAT SAME TIME PERIOD -- There has been 8 different Presidents. 4 Democrat and 4 Republican. Democrats have controlled the houses in that timeframe, and Republicans have also.

The political parties are not the problem.

Yes.

1. The rule of law is threatened.
2. The tariffs are terrible.
3. The government's fiscal policy is terrible, and Republicans just made it a lot worse.
4. The independence of the Fed is threatened.
5. The immigration crackdown is harmful and badly executed.
6. The Departments of HHS and Commerce are staffed by idiots with crank ideas.
7. The Director of National Intelligence behaves indistinguishably from a Russian agent.
8. The Attorney General, FCC Chairman, and President of the United States are pro-censorship authoritarians.

Oh come now, Gatsby. Take heart. At least we are still giving billions of dollars in aid to Israel, the United States' greatest, most valuable ally it has ever had and ever will have. I think the benefits that provides easily overcomes the 8 points you brought up with change.

EDIT: J/K, my wife points out that I am being a total dick. I do agree with you on every point.

Over 40 years, you say?

That would put your starting point in the early 80s.
Yes, but really the late 70s.
Corporatism and globalism is our biggest enemy, and the late 70s is when the whole system began to change
It has made the financial markets explode to unsustainable heights - all while destroying the middle class.
And BOTH SIDES have been corrupted by it.

I suppose the answer depends on who you ask.

If you’re rich? You probably think things are great.

If you’re a Christian nationalist type? You’re probably happy.

Everyone else? Well, I’d say the majority are too busy trying to keep their heads above water to even have much of a chance to think about it.

In 2020, when Kimberly Guilfoyle stood at an empty RNC in the middle of the pandemic and shrieked into a camera "THE BEST IS YET TO COME!" she had no idea she was acting as the clownish harbinger for America's accelerating slide into decrepitude.

You missed who made changes to the American way of life.

President Reagan cut taxes on the rich and cut services for everyone else, tripling the national debt.

President Bush 2 deregulated the housing market, causing a massive economic crash, and cut taxes on the rich further.

President Trump raised taxes on everyone with tariffs while cutting taxes for the rich.

The underlying theme is, they change the rules so money gets distributed away from the American public and toward the American billionaires. Virtually all of our major problems, such as housing and healthcare, stem from those choices.

Sure, but a couple of trans kids want to play sport.

Priorities, sir!

Sigh - typical.
Left out the damage done by Larry Summers, Greenspan, Rubin, Obama, Bernanke.... how convenient

Democrats use money to get power;
Republicans use power to get money.
The ideology of the democrats drives their donor activity.
The donor activity drives the republican ideology.

And neither party gives a shit about the public.

Obama spent all his political capital getting rid of pre-existing conditions.

Remember those? Folks who got cancer died bankrupt.

Republicans NEVER thanked him for that.

The Elites on both sides organized methods spelled out in 'The Art of War".
1) Split up your enemy, pit them against each other. Divide and Conquer. Make Democrats always blame Republicans and make republicans always blame Democrats. While they get away with everything.
2) The use of conditioning. Over time you can get people to accept anything. Americans of the 1950s - would never-ever allow the government and corporations to do what they do now. Not even close. There would be a revolution. But over time, little by little, if you are patient you can get them to accept anything you want. If you get them while they are young especially.

Over the past 40 years corporations - literally - took over everything. Everything.
The first targets were Newspapers. From 1960-1990 almost every newspaper of any size at all was bought up by media groups that controlled what was published. Then in the 1990s - they began to take over cable companies, networks and finally started their own news organizations - Fox/CNN/MSNBC.
All completely corrupt, and since then they have wholesale turned Americans against Americans.

And you see this every day right here in this forum.

And they convinced people that the Media was "liberal" by repeating that Big Lie over and over and over and over.

****ing brilliant!
