Is 'privilege' a bad thing?

If you consider yourself lucky to have been born in a first world country rather than someplace like Sierra Leone then you have essentially recognized that you have some kind of unearned privilege over the people born there. Does that invalidate your achievements? No. Not at all.

The only time people get their knickers in a twist over privilege is when privilege over people close to home is pointed out.

Or when it's invented to further the race divide and shame people for daring to be born white.

That's just life, I was born into poverty, working poor immigrant Irish-american family during the dark ages of NYC. did some have it better, sure, so what, none of my business, nor did I care.

And people in third world countries often don't care about how much better off other people are. The Dominican Republic is one of the happiest countries in the world and it's a third world country. Once you can recognize that privilege exists between countries, you only then have to realize that it exists within our country and in many cases is related to ethnicity. America is meant to be a land where all men are born equal. As long as privilege exists within the country, then that isn't true. Worse still, those who deny privilege then blame the issues that those without privilege face on them just being bad or lazy people.
