It would please him if you thought he is a genius and said it out loud. My guess his IQ is in the 120's, about 35 points too low to qualify. But he has what could be called "a genius personality" that enables him to draw supporters on this quality alone. No politician but Trump could say what he said yesterday about Ukraine and China helping him bring down Joe Biden and get away with it. He might not get way with it either, but then he may, solely on the power of personality, absurd as that is to realize.

President Trump is a genius. Maybe an evil genius, but his life history is genius. He isn't just rich starting by inheritance, but brilliant at it because he used the wealth for personal pleasure. Virtually all billionaires are money grubbers who live solely to get more money - more billions - billions they will never use, just pile it up more and more for no reason other than pointlessly accumulating money.

Not Trump. He accumulated money but also spent huge amounts of that money for his pleasure. Where ever he was at in his life, he burned money to get what he wanted:
He wanted to be in the jet set, so bought an airline.
In the yachting world, so bought a mega yacht.
Wanted beautiful women, so bought a worldwide beauty contest.
Wanted in the sports world, so got into football ownership.
Wanted in the gambling world, so bought a casino (and still has one BTW in Vegas)
When older wanted to play golf and be in the golfing world - so bought among the most prestigious golf courses on earth.
He wanted to be famous, and became the #1 television celebrity with the #1 show.
In his old age retirement he wanted to be President. So despite EVERYONE saying that was so impossible it is a joke, he became president.
President Trump does what he wants to do.

To those who claim he often lost money at these goals, that is because they are idiots. If you have billions, only a fool wouldn't spend (lose) some of it to get what you want for yourself personally for pleasure. Anyone thinking otherwise is a money grubbing idiot. If I had a few billion dollars I'd be blowing money on what I personally wanted like crazy, not just endlessly trying to horde more.

If Trump were a “genius personality” his approval ratings wouldn’t consistently stay below 50%. He is good at reading and feeding his type of audience, keeping them loyal. And any completely amoral person willing to say/do things does publicly, like Trump, would be received the same way. There’s no magic to it.

His "type of audience" (in the tens of millions) isn't ordinarily totally won over, except maybe for comedy, by someone as patently crude, amoral, ignorant, dishonest and self obsessive as Trump. I think there is a dark magic to it
