In another thread(Human shields), a poster has argued that whenever you kill a person, no matter the situation, the result, or the person's deeds, it is always a bad thing.
Is it so?
Just to clarify, the question is not if killing a human can be a good thing, but if it is always a bad thing.
Buddhists don't count****
Sorry Wind. :2razz::2razz::2razz:
just kidding
But is there no situation when the person killing the other person is suffering from zero karma's harm?Karmically, it's usually a bad thing. It depends on the motivation. If someone kills a human who is about to kill others and does so out of a motivation of compassion for all then the killing is less harmful to the altruistic killer.

Absolutely not. Even if I consult my religion it says you shall not murder.
Murder is always killing, killing is not always murder.

No. There are always consequences. A great bodhisattva may have pure motivation for killing but still have to suffer the hell realms for killing a human being.
I have made sure to clarify that is not the question in the OP.in certain situations it is probably the best thing to do, but that dosent make it a good thing

Your god has said a lot of things. My observation is that humans have twisted the meanings to fit their individual likings. At heart, Jesus wasn't about fighting back and killing people, but rather for trying to accept and understand other humans and their feeling and their desires. Learning to live along with each other, not destroy each other. Judge not less ye be judged.
In a moral or legal context?
Fundamentally as all humans have the right to life, it is always bad to take the life of another human. That doesn't necessarily mean you aren't justified in doing so (i.e. that it will always come with jail time). But the act in and of itself is always a bad thing. You've taken something which can't be given back and infringed upon the most basic of all human rights.
If that crazed Islamic is coming at me with my death utmost in his mind, then I will try to kill him, I have no other choice.
This is war, not peacetime.
Will man ever live in peace?no
As cold as this sounds, when I heard that Jeffrey Dahmer had been killed in jail, I was happy.
If I found out that Scott Peterson was killed, I'd be happy.
If I found out that the pediatrician who molested over 100 kids was killed, I'd be elated.
There are circumstances where I would celebrate someone being killed when that someone was what I considered "evil." That usually involves a person who has inflicted terrible things onto others.
I'd be lying if I said otherwise. This is how I truly feel.
Yes. When all beings have been fully enlightened.:2wave:
You're not alone. I wouldn't join you, but many people would.
Having no personal experience, I can't tell you what enlightenment is or isn't.Enlightenment is a subjective quality. There is no way to objectively determine actual "enlightenment". So I agree with earthworm.
