Is it acceptable?

Is texting an acceptable way to call in to work?

I have noticed a trend with young people. They seem to think it is acceptable to text their boss that they won't be able to come to work that day. It has always been my policy that they must call. What say you?

Hell, calling in where I work...you better be at the doctor with an excuse the next day.

Exactly. Some of us have this thing called a "work ethic". I know it's almost totally unknown today, but it actually did exist at one time.

...back in the day we also didn't have cellphones turning the work day into a perpetual unending day. Plenty of workers (a lot of which are not even salaried) give a generous amount of time that they are rarely compensated for contributing to the business outside of standard working hours. As to the early comment regarding sick days as a form of compensation. My workplace ditched the whole sick time issue and we have personal days. Of course I could do 1/2 of my job from home. So a sick day isn't a day off exactly.
