is Democracy the only option for having a government that works for the people?

Because the Roman Empire destroyed it the ancient greek society but look at how much influence the ancient greeks have had on philosophy, law, language etc...Their government was perfect and it worked their society was just taken over by the roman empire.

And the eventual step of any 50%+1 majority will be to vote to end those pesky elections and stay in power.

Okay, it might take more than that +1 vote, but that's the flaw of the direct democracy trap.

What makes the United States work so well, and it used to work wonderfully, is the republican nature of it's structure and its WRITTEN and RIGIDLY DEAD Constitution that can only be altered by an onerous amendment process.

Reverse the unconstitutional damage done by Wilson, FDR, and later presidents, and the US will rebound like no other nation on the planet.

Yes, the non-existent government of ancient Greece was just perfect. The Peloponessian War that ended the Athenean ascendancy was just perfect. It set the Greeks up to be slaves in Roman villas.

And who wouldn't have wanted that?

Still gone to.

Greek government was not perfect, not at all.
Their system had it's own set of flaws, particularly that people had more options to participate in decision making.

Democratic governments are inevitable slow, painful deaths, mostly by "do gooders" no less.

Mencken put it best with these gems,

"Democracy is a pathetic belief in the collective wisdom of individual ignorance."

"As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron. "

Ah.

So the US has, after 43 failed attempts, finally perfected Democracy.
 
Yes but our system of government is based off of the Roman system of government and why is it gone :O because it became corrupt and people wanted too much power...there is no reason why our government can't become a dictatorship just like the old Roman Empire did look how much power the federal government has isn't it better for the people to have all of the absolute power than none of it at all. and its not like we're going to have votes about if we should oppress children or votes about if women and men are equal or votes about if we should have slaves or anything like that. We are going to vote on modern day issues just like congress does such as IF we should go to war, IF certain illegal drugs should be legal or illegal, and so on and so forth we're not going to have votes on things that take liberties or life away from other people that is against the ideals that founded this nation so it just wouldn't be on the ballots.
 
Not all of Greece was a direct Democracy mind you Sparta was a dictatorship in fact, but the Athenian example was...for its time perfect, the roman empire was able to take over Greece because Greece was not one single country their country was seperated into things called city states that each had its own government and its own way of doing things if they were one seperate country they would have at least stood a chance against the Roman Empire as would most of the Barbarian nations that were also seperated into many tribes and clans
