All the douchebags in monster trucks and loud souped up Dodges are just wasting fuel. After a week in Hawaii, where gas prices are always high, you don't see that, you don't hear people pealing out from a street light, etc.

If we all had hybrids or hybrid/electric cars that get over 60 mpg or ran 25-50 miles per charge, we wouldn't need nearly as much gas, and it would be a hell of a lot quieter.

You do know that over 65% of a barrel of oil is made into a lot of things besides fuel and lubricants right? Plastics are just the start of a very long list. Oil is one of the most singularly useful commodities on the planet.

Presuming that completely solves the transport fuels side of the equation what do you propose to do with the other 65% of the barrel that is used to make much of the foundations of modern materials? Plastics are the first in a long list of stuff made from oil.
