Is accepting a 400-million-dollar plane from a foreign country a violation of the law? (1 Viewer)

Part of the discussion is that he'd have use of it after his term too.
Oh yeah, he would be riding around the world in the Qatar jet. He would be spending a lot of time in Qatar and Saudi Arabia, of course, since he owes them his fortune. He will need to go there to kowtow frequently.

Nobody is giving Trump a plane, so no...there is no violation of the law.

Is the law specific to planes?
Or does anything of value potentially count?
What is the price of a single day's rental on a luxury craft like that?
Is that a thing of value?
or no?

It won’t be used for 3 years.

It will take two years to gut it completely and make sure there’s no surveillance equipment in it, and then fit it out with special defense systems and Diet Coke buttons.
Air Force One has advanced defense systems such as jammers to disrupt enemy radar, infrared countermeasures to confuse heat-seeking missiles, and flares that can be deployed to confuse missiles. The plane is also hardened against electromagnetic pulses and can withstand the effects of a nuclear blast. The presidential jet can fly higher than any commercial jet, 45,100 feet. The plane from Qatar certainly doesn't have any of that, so any 'new' plane will have to be fitting with all that equipment at a cost of hundreds of millions.

I used to think that some posters on DP were the folks Trump spoke of when he said he could shoot someone on Fifth Ave and not lose some supporters. I have to assume that you would not bat an eye if he used his new plane to strafe people on Fifth Avenue. Do you ever find any fault in Trump?

Tristan Snell is an attorney with the SDNY who, with Letitia James, prosecuted the Trump organization for business fraud. (and won)

For the price tag of $5 million dollars for anyone who can afford it, Trump offered U.S. citizenship. But, that's not even the start of his profiting off his presidency. Who is investing in all of these meme coins he's selling? 76% of the token value held among the top 220 wallets likely belong to foreign owners because the 'wallets' used exchange that are not available to U.S. residents. When we're talking about cybersecurity, when we're talking about national intelligence, look no further than the breakdown of the Oval Office. Nobody around Trump cares about violations of the office of the presidency. Cryptocurrencies are often described as pseudonymous, meaning that transactions are linked to wallet addresses rather than real-world identities.

How did you get three years? It will take that long to retrofit it. Proof it would only be used by Trump, even if that happened.
Really? You didn’t read the part where it goes to the Trump museum when Trump’s term is up?

The US taxpayer eating the $$$$ spent on the two US-made AF1s that are in process?

Just a reminder that Trump has not yet enforced the ban on TikTok that Congress passed (and that Trump previously supported) although TikTok has been called a threat to national security.

"The gift is to the U.S. Air Force, not Trump personally"
So, no, I don't think Congress has to approve a gift to the Air Force, as the Air Force is the party receiving it.

So it's a gift to the government for the exclusive use of Trump, then after two years it will be handed over to Trump. I don't think that's awesome justification you think it is.

Could well be a violation of the Emoluments Clause.

...Senator Adam B. Schiff of California, who as a House member led the first impeachment case against Mr. Trump, said the plane amounted to a “pretty clear” violation of the emoluments clause. “The corruption is brazen,” Mr. Schiff wrote on social media.

Representative Jamie Raskin of Maryland criticized the gift, saying the president must first seek Congress’s consent.

“The Constitution is perfectly clear: no present ‘of any kind whatever’ from a foreign state without Congressional permission,” he said on social media. “A gift you use for four years and then deposit in your library is still a gift (and a grift).”
OK, ignorant Canadian here. I don't get how you can "deposit" a plane into a library. How does that work exactly?

AF1 is old, out of date and two new models are as of yet undelivered since the Obama administration initially agreed to use Boeing to build a pair of new AF1's. DOD agreed that Boeing would be the manufacturer in January 2015.
Ok, then. Buy your own ****ing plane -- it's not like you can't afford it (especially now that you cut PBS off ).

Nobody is giving Trump a plane, so no...there is no violation of the law.
The degree to which you defend Trump is nothing short of astonishing.
If and when the plane arrives, it becomes government property. As such, it cannot follow Trump to his "Shithead President" Presidential Library.

Did they give Trump a plane? Did they loan it to him? Or was this a gift to the U.S. to remain with the President in office, or perhaps all just m ore of the typical democrats bulshit.
Seriously, are you REALLY that uninformed? Geez.

Nobody is giving Trump a plane, so no...there is no violation of the law.
So laughably bad at this.
Even he is on record that it goes to his Trump Library after his term ends.
Therefore, a ****ing gift. To him.

Trump doesn't own the plane the US goverment owns it. And who came up with the 400 million dollar value? It's a used plane that has been depreciated. For Qtar it's a liability that require storage and maintenance.
Except it is going to his presidential library when his term is up, so NOT the government.
Shill better.

Then, how, pray tell, can he "donate" the plane to his library when he leaves office? How can he give that kind of wealth to anyone or any thing if it belongs to the government? It's Congress that would have to do it, not the president, as it is Congress's constitutional duty to handle the country's finances. At least, it was. Sorry. We live in different times now. Can't take any of our freedoms for granted, especially if it means the president personally would lose money by allowing them to continue.
You are attempting to debate with @Mycroft's typical Trump bullshit defense tactics.
He is simply "eat up" with Trump Worship Sickness.

Trump is be given a 400 million dollar- plane from a foreign country. Does this violate the laws about what the president can and cannot accept as a "gift"?

Is accepting a 400-million-dollar plane from a foreign country a violation of the law?

I've got to say, isn't this now the type of thing that is par for the course? If you (generally speaking) are still surprised by any of this you haven't been paying much attention. I mean, we've had the Supreme Court give a favorable ruling to an arrested and convicted felon president, making the commission of crimes basically freebies. Oh, and remember, the con justices on the SC have their own issues with the law and Constitution, so hypocrisy and criminality are rampant there just in time for the first convicted criminal president! As for the con Congress, they were long ago turned over to Trump as his rubber stamp flunkies. USA, USA, USA!!!!!!!!!!!!

Was the Statue of Liberty a bribe?
It was A) voted on by congress to accept. 2) did it go to Grover Cleveland's back yard when his term was up?

Right. So not the same, by any stretch of the imagination, and I bet you already knew that.

And Qatar will receive delivery in 2094.

Trump is selling out America for his own personal gain. No surprise at all. His Middle East trip is an act of betrayal to our national security. As long as Trump gets his kickback, America comes last and he comes first. And Middle Eastern countries buy access to American technology that will fall into the wrong hands. Trump goes where the money and the corruption are, the USA be damned. He is a treacherous traitor and an oath breaker.
