Iraqi lawmakers demand US withdrawal after Trump visit

Iraqi lawmakers Thursday demanded U.S. forces leave the country in the wake of a surprise visit by President Donald Trump that politicians denounced as arrogant and a violation of Iraqi sovereignty.

Politicians from both blocs of Iraq's divided Parliament called for a vote to expel U.S. troops and promised to schedule an extraordinary session to debate the matter.

"Parliament must clearly and urgently express its view about the ongoing American violations of Iraqi sovereignty," said Salam al-Shimiri, a lawmaker loyal to the populist cleric Moqtada al-Sadr.

Trump, making his first presidential visit to troops in a troubled region Wednesday, said he has no plans to withdraw the 5,200 U.S. forces in the country.

COMMENT:-

Mr. Trump has sent the Iraqis his reply.

The Iraqis have not yet sent back the requisite "Yes Massa.".

It would be nice if we left all of that disaster behind.

We should never have gone to Iraq in the first place. Now, we're there, we've deposed (and hung) their leader and left our soldiers there.

Now, the question is: Are our soldiers an occupying force, or are they peace keepers? If the Iraqis want us gone, and we don't leave, then they must be the former.

One good thing about Trump: He doesn't seem to believe in the PNAC ideal of America as the world's cop. Maybe he'll put an end to the occupation of Iraq. We'll see.

Since Mr. Trump has already accused Mr. Obama of "running away" from Iraq because Mr. Obama implemented the agreement that Mr. Bush signed off on, and since Mr. Trump has already said that he has no plans to remove American troops from Iraq, we can only await His "Twitter" announcement that the war in Iraq is over and He is bringing the troops home after winning the greatest victory in American history over the most powerful enemy that the United States of America has ever faced.
