I caught a glimpse of a tv snip stating that Iran had executed a billionaire (did not know they have them too). Anyone have more info on this?

"TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — A billionaire businessman at the heart of a $2.6 billion state bank scam in Iran, the largest fraud case since the country's 1979 Islamic Revolution, was executed Saturday, state television reported.

Authorities put Mahafarid Amir Khosravi, also known as Amir Mansour Aria, to death at Evin prison, just north of the capital, Tehran, the TV reported. The report said the execution came after Iran's Supreme Court upheld his death sentence."

Actually rape is a capital crime in Iran- cultural perception is a strange animal.... :peace

The decadent culture in the US should follow what the Iranians have done. The bankers who caused the housing collapse should have been punished. But "banks are too big to fail." Is it no wonder they view the Americans as immoral and godless and therefore worthy of destruction?

in fact rape results in death penalty.but of course many rape victims are executed if they cant prove they were raped.

minor crimes and did not meet international standards for which the death penalty may be implemented.

Since coming into power, the Islamic Republic of Iran, which deposed Iran’s Shah in the Iranian Revolution of 1979, has used capital punishment as a way to quiet dissidence and control the government reins.

Iran has long run second only to China in the number of citizens executed each year, according to Amnesty International. And given China's much higher population, Iran's per capita rate far outstrips all other nations.

this was before yesterday's out burst from Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, that apparently put an end to nuclear negotiations with the US. Note the "minor crimes" reasons for executions above the link.


Bank fraud is a death sentence, just like drug smuggling..there was also reports of :

Iran's Fight to Keep Its Beaches Unsexy

which is not an execution crime, though a crime against "morality" when men and women swim together -even with the burkas/hajib. Morality police to the rescue...

The bank maybe but the banker damn sure ain't too big... too well connected maybe a whole 'nother can of worms...

Dunno about destruction, but many in the Arab/Muslim world don't see a bright city on the hill, but more like a Vegas neon sign which reminds us it wasn't built on the backs of winners.... :peace

It is interesting to compare parts of different cultures- many Muslims believe laws should help maintain religion, family, and conformity.

Many in this Country who call themselves social conservatives and or very religious feel laws should be passed to maintain religion, family and conformity.

Many of the Social Conservatives feel we are too soft on crime, far too pornographic, and wish to collapse the established social order.

It would appear many in this country who are conservative are envious of the Muslim world, but loath to admit it.

no, its original is that one needs at least 4 witnesses to accuse her wife of having sex with another guy but of course it has no value in practice.teh reason why this verse is a part of Qoran is to prevent people from smearing their wives or other women.


we dont regard islamists as muslim.they dont even obey whats written in Quran .they follow so called hadiths and traditions .

I don't think so. Iran's brand of fundamentalism Sharia law is used to control the populace.

Women don't want to wear the hajib, burkas to beaches, and the men who aren't crazed power hungry fundamentalist Shi'a practicing lunatics don't either.

The leadership is sick - Ayatollah Khomeini started down this road after the '79 revolution, and all the following Supreme Leaders used the same fears to hold onto power.

partly l agree with you but such countries are just islamist countries.they do everything except respecting Quran.
