In 2007 when the murderer Jared Lee Loughner first met Rep. Gabrielle Giffords he asked her "What is government if words have no meaning?"

What is your interpretation of his quote?

I think he was trying, in his own insane way, to imply that government is whatever society defines it to be. And that in being an "idea," government exists only in our minds. That is to say, government is not concrete but depended on the peoples to "buy into it," regardless of Constitution or charter, or what have you.

I think he was talking about newspeak. He's a very disturbed man who probably would have shot Orwell if he found out he was a Democratic Socialist

He shot 9 people or something, why aren't there calls to waterboard him? He might have associates planning something similar. National security and all that jazz.

If words have no meaning then government is a small purple rodent that lives on an eskimo. but seriously, if you use the premise of "words have no meaning" why the **** would you osk someone to define something.

A most excellent idea. We could broadcast it live on Pay Per View, and cover this year's national debt with the profits.

It would fit in perfectly with all the uninformed hyperpartisan rhetoric that has been spewed about this tragedy from day one.
