The potential effectiveness of an order issued Sunday to stop the removal of United States Postal Service sorting machines is now in question. Internal USPS planning documents obtained by CNN indicate nearly 95% of the mail sorting machines that had been set for removal during the last few months were already scheduled to be taken out of service by now. White House chief of staff Mark Meadows told CNN's Jake Tapper on "State of the Union" that the USPS would not remove any more mail sorting machines until after the election. Documents from June, obtained by CNN, show the USPS planned to remove 502 DBCS (Delivery Barcode Sorter) machines, or 13.2% of its total inventory by September 30. These machines make up the bulk of the USPS mail sort operation. They sort envelope mail, which would include ballots en route to voters. However, nearly 95%, or 475, of those were scheduled to be removed by the end of July according to documents. It's unclear how many machines the USPS has actually removed at this point.
Internal USPS documents raise questions about effectiveness of sorting machines removal order
Dismantled DBCS (Delivery Barcode Sorter) machine.
In other words, Trump Chief of Staff was playing fast and loose on Sunday when he said the USPS: "would not remove any more" DBCS mail-sorting machines.
According to USPS internal documents, 95% of the planned DBCS removals would have already been accomplished by July 31.
Upshot: The DBCS machines that Trump needs removed/deactivated before the election may already be off-line. You can't believe a word these Trump pricks say.
Am I understanding this correctly? Everyone was ****ting themselves that Trump was ordering the dismantling of the USPS to prevent mail in ballots being processed but the stuff that was being "dismantled" had already been slated for decommissioning...and it's still Trump's fault?

Slow down there Cowboy, as far as I can see that’s not at all what it means.
You’re insinuating that this was some, long planned, years long program to remove these sorting machines that just happened, to happen now and was seized upon by the Media and misrepresented.
Show me where that is the case?
Documents from June - I.E. When DeJoyce became Postmaster General states that they planned to remove 502 machines.
What they are saying, is that the effectiveness of the order to stop the removal of sorting devices may be ineffective because many may have already been removed.
So your thinking is that Trump planned to sabotage mail in balloting two months ago? Had anyone even proposed universal mail in balloting at that point?

Not exactly,
Trump and his cabal have been busy at trying to sabotage the post office at least since April or May.
It’s just reached the point where it’s clear that it will have a serious impact on the elections.
Which, as. the fuhrer said out loud, is exactly what he is hoping for.
It really doesn't matter what Trump's intent is, or what the Postmaster General's intent is.
What we know now, according to USPS's own estimates, is that for at least 46 states, the USPS cannot guarantee to meet the deadlines for mail-in voting.
We need to adequately fund the USPS, and change its leadership, and this needs to happen immediately.
It flat-out doesn't matter if anyone thinks Trump tried to sabotage the mail.
It needs to be fixed...and it needs to be fixed now.
And if you loved your country and if you value the right of your fellow citizens to vote you wouldn't oppose funding the USPS so people can vote via mail-in ballot during a global pandemic, and you wouldn't be spending all your time criticizing the people who are upset about this.
So you figure it's a good idea to max out capacity of the USPS because of and event that happens for a couple of weeks once every four years? We've been voting in this country for 232 years and the ONLY reason people are whining about vote by mail now is because of the virus and we have NEVER changed the voting system for anything else, ever.
If the post office is EVER going to be solvent then it needs to be kitted out for REASONABLE EXPECTATIONS, not the ultra, super, mega unique circumstances some people believe we need to plan for every day.

No change is required. I have been voting by mail since the 2006 mid terms.
And if you don't think the timing is convenient with this postal tear down, then I have some oceanfront lots in Tucson that you might be interested in.
He just doesn’t care.
Whatever excuses are necessary in order to Provide Trump political cover for doing something this obviously anti-democratic in nature.
1. temporarily increase funding to whatever is needed
2. get through voting
3. look at optimising the system in mid november or perhaps after the christmas rush
4, enact an emergency funding pool the USPS can tap into for these once in a while events without congressional approval (perhaps using a FEMA disaster declaration or some other mechanism) to be refilled during normal operational years.
Contrary to popular Progressive thinking, simply throwing money at a problem doesn't fix that problem. Besides, having a whole ****load of resources sitting idle in anticipation of an event that has never happened before and, at most, would occur for only a few week stretch once every four years from here on out is the epitome of waste. It's kind of like having 300 rolls of toilet paper on the shelf in your garage just in case a virus that has nothing to do with toilet paper comes along some day. If you just have those spare resources sitting around they still need to be warehoused, maintained and function checked. They cost money even when not doing anything and the fact of the matter is that paper mail is fading away, not projected to increase.
You people want some huge expansion of services for something that has never happened before, is unlikely to happen again and really isn't necessary because we already have this process in place in every state. At some point the people need to learn that they can adjust and that the whole ****ing world isn't required to adjust for them.
