Insurrection in Chicago - Chicago police ordered to ignore Border Patrol agents’ plea for help while surrounded by angry mob of protesters

Assuming the story cited in the OP is accurate, this really could backfire on the mayor and those in Illinois opposed to Trump sending in the National Guard.

Trump probably doesn't have the legal standing to send in the troops to protect state interests when state officials oppose the use of the NG. But Trump can most certainly send in the National Guard to protect federal interests, e.g. protect a IRS office or federal officials. If ICE officers start facing physical harm from protesters and local police refuse to come to their aid, then I think Trump would be entirely within his rights to use the NG to protect federal immigration law enforcement officials.

If you start a fight, be able to finish it. On Trump's orders, ICE is starting fights from Portland to Chicago. You are blaming the cops for riots caused by Trump.

Trump is doing his best to destroy the American government. 3 1/2 years to go. With their silence, Republicans agree.
Trump has picked the perfect target for his destruction of America -- our major cities.

Nearly every major city in the U.S. is controlled by Democrats. Obviously, most of the crime in the U.S. is in cities controlled by Democrats. The same is true with the number of illegal immigrants.

Compare the amount of crime and the number of illegal immigrants in New York City with that of Omaha, Nebraska. You get my point?

So, while Trump is trying to quell violence in Gaza, he causes riots and disorder in Washington, D.C., Portland, Oregon, Chicago, Illinois, and L.A to justify sending in troops in America's cities.

Republicans think this is smart. They will say nothing regarding this issue.

Certainly so. Which is why they want to bring in the National Guard. Someone who will actually do something to protect officers just trying to do their jobs.
Posse Comitatus.

MAGAs are going to have to wait for the Supreme MAGA Court to save you on this one. It might take some time yet.

The US District Courts are ruling that not only does Posse Comitatus prohibit the federal / federalized military from doing law enforcement, the PCAct prohibits 'em assisting in law enforcement. All the NG can do is stand around placing bets on which side will run the other out. In this case it was the Icestapo who got run out. Which and as we're seeing causes a lot of butt hurt for their worshipers.

Sorry to spoil that Kool Aid you went so far to get.

With that big pretzel of a post.

That makes sense. Should ICE agents, in the process of doing their jobs enforcing immigration law, find themselves in a dangerous situation, any injuries -- or worse -- suffered as a result of the Chicago Police willfully ignoring their calls for help will be Donald Trump's fault.

On second thought, wait, no, that is just effing stupid.
Truth. That is one of the ****ing stupidest things I've read today.

I think everyone needs to stop and think about ICE's mandate and their training. They are immigration agents...not drug enforcement, not crime enforcement, not crowd control. They have a very specific and limited function for which they are trained and they need to stick to that. If they want to work in a collaborative manner with local LE then sit down and work out a plan.......this wild west, no rules, approach is destined for failure.....and worse

Yes. Absolutely.

This is exactly what is going to happen. Find out who gave the Chief of Patrol "No units will respond to this." the authority to make the order and likely it will lead to the Mayor of Chicago, bootlicker to Gov. Pritzker.

For those who haven't a clue as to the power of ICE and what they are responsible for doing:

Enforcement and Removal Operations

The ERO directorate upholds U.S. immigration law at, within, and beyond our borders. ERO's work is critical to the enforcement of immigration law against those who present a danger to our national security, are a threat to public safety, or who otherwise undermine the integrity of our immigration system.

ERO operations target public safety threats, such as convicted criminal undocumented aliens and gang members, as well as individuals who have otherwise violated our nation's immigration laws, including those who illegally re-entered the country after being removed and immigration fugitives ordered removed by federal immigration judges. ERO deportation officers assigned to INTERPOL also assist in targeting and apprehending foreign fugitives or Fugitive Arrest and Removal (FAR) cases who are wanted for crimes committed abroad and who are now at-large in the U.S.

ERO manages all aspects of the immigration enforcement process, including identification and arrest, domestic transportation, detention, bond management, and supervised release, including alternatives to detention. In addition, ERO removes undocumented aliens ordered removed from the U.S. to more than 150 countries around the world.

We are discussing a scenario where ICE agents are facing physical harm, and you characterize the CPD's ability to render aid to be a "private business amenity]?"

You continue to astound.
Maybe ICE shouldn’t have lobbed tear gas at Chicago cops.

... that you cannot defend your arguments, yes.
No.

But the larger point is who is to blame when someone is hurt or killed while trump plays his dangerous games. The answer is trump.

Get a grip, people.
Why can't we agree that this is a bad situation?
Can't we just agree that this shouldn't be happening?

What the hell are border agents doing in Chicago to begin with. Did not realize Chicago was on any of our borders. They and ICE have been attacking not only illegals but our citizens. Instead of worrying about the border agents getting help, get them back to the border and hire decent people to be ICE agents instead of thugs.
Chicago is within the 100 mile Border Enforcement Zone. The zone is all the borders, not just the southern border.

No, the larger point in our exchanges remains that you make assertions you cannot support and then run from them. Trump has many faults, but he is not to be blamed for your irrational statements.

These new "ICE free zones" can join the other lawless neighborhoods under the good mayor's administrative oversight.

With 22 shootings and 29 victims just this past weekend in Chicago, they'll show those thugs in Washington at thing or two about things being out of control.
Yeah! Oh wait…

Where’s the NG cleaning up those streets?
