and:“Although not mentioned in the EC (Electronic Communication), at the time, FBI officials involved in opening the investigation had reason to believe that Russia may have been connected to the Wikileaks disclosures that occurred earlier in July 2016, and were aware of information regarding Russia’s efforts to interfere with the 2016 U.S. elections. These officials, though, did not become aware of Steele’s election reporting until weeks later and we therefore determined that Steele’s reports played no role in the Crossfire Hurricane opening,” the report said.
Horowitz found that the two key former FBI officials who have been used as fodder for “deep state” allegations from the right — Lisa Page and Peter Strzok — actually had limited roles in the launch of the probe. Page “attended some of the discussions regarding the opening of the investigations,” but didn’t “play a role in the decision to open Crossfire Hurricane or the four individual” surveillance cases, which included Carter Page, as well as George Papadopoulos, Michael Flynn and Paul Manafort. Strzok was more “directly involved” in the launch of probe, but he was not the “sole, or even the highest-level decision maker as to any of those matters.”

Of course, Dirtbag and his toadies will focus on the minor stuff that played no part in the investigation. Toady-in-Chief Barr is already dissing Horowitz's report. Horowitz is highly regarded within the DoJ so Barr continues to demean his own department with his horrifically inappropriate politicization of it. He makes what Alberto Gonzalez had to resign over look like kindergarten level corruption.
Perhaps Horowitz should have left the EC and any questions of motivation into why Crossfire Hurricane was begun to the guy who actually has the power to fully investigate that matter. Furthermore, is Horowitz fully aware of what Strzok was doing during the time that he was assigned to work for the CIA? I don't think so. That would require Horowitz to be able to examine CIA documents and phone records...something Horowitz cannot do.
This is why Durham has stated that such conclusions reached by Horowitz are not credible.

That's what's a bit stunning is the AG is actively undermining his own IG, and the DoJ as a whole. What's worse from what I see is that he's doing it without providing a basis for it. We're all left to guess why and on what basis he's trashing the IG report. It's pretty remarkable in a very, very bad way IMO.
Fair. Hard to reach a complete conclusion without being able to examine the complete set of facts. Sure looks like about 1/2 or more might have been out of Horowitz's reach, and within Durham's and Barr's reach.
Sorry folks....Durham has already tainted whatever he finds by opting for a political announcement ahead of the release of a completed Durham investigation. So Sorry Trumpettes all you are really going to get out of a Durham investigation is more grist for YOUR own silo mill. The rest of us will simply look at it as another element of Trumpian political hackery unless it is absolute iron clad proof of a conspiratorial cabal v Trump and guess what IT WON'T BE.
See what Trump and his allies are willing to give up for political hackery. Lets tarnish what might be a real and valuable investigative effort and instead opt for short term political gain. How much does that sound like the Trump gang prioritizing an announcement of an investigation into the Bidens and Burisma over an actual Investigation? How much does that sound like Barr releasing his "opinion" of the Mueller Report ahead of instead of alongside the Mueller Report which of course allowed Barr to use segment fragments from the Mueller Report and treat them as actual quotes WHICH THEY WERE NOT!
You Boneheads see a trend here or still have your heads stuck in the sand?

The Swamp says the Swamp did nothing wrong.
Shocking.

You're exactly right. "Taint" is the accurate word for what Durham and Barr did yesterday. There was no need for them to come out and comment on the IG report, especially Dunham, who has an open investigation. He should finish up and then share his opinions with us. I'm sure Trump ordered Barr to do that, and he ordered Durham. And both political flunkies said "Yes, sir.".

Sorry-- Durham's comment was hardly political. He dissagrees with there being no criminal activity involved.
I do agree that focusing on criminal activity is the wrong way to go. As the IG report indicated, there was a very thin reed for the FBI to think that Trump was conspiring with Russia. As Barr pointed out, the mistakes made during the investigation all seemed to go in the favor of the theory that Trump had conspired with Russia.
As the current impeachment hearing indicates, even thinking about investigating a political opponent can merit removal from office (the 'death penalty"). The standards for actually investigating a candidate should be much higher.
Barr is suggesting that Horowitz is finding a very thin reed to justify thinking the Trump campaign conspired with Russia-- and thus launching an investigation.

We actually do not know why Durham has made any statements at all at this point. We have a compete DOJIG report and it says what it says.
According to some posters, the IG report was supposed to be EPIC. Does not sound epic to me.
I can understand why Barr is scrambling right now. Has to keep the brown stain on his nose up to snuff.
I fully expect that next we will see Horowitz framed up as a NEVER TRUMPER. Chris Wrey probably about to face the same criticism.

It cited myriad failings which resulted in people who make decisions, including the FISC, to get inaccurate, incomplete and unverified information on which to base those decisions. It also implies that some of those decision makers should have known or suspected that the information was less than reliable. Most damning is that even when the shortcomings in the information being received were revealed it was STILL allowed to be used as a basis to continue the investigation. That’s pretty “epic” when you’re talking about the FBI investigating a presidential candidate and then an elected president.
